He enthusiastically investigated intricate stories, could work for hours in his makeshift chemical laboratory, did boxing, and accurately shot a pistol. In moments of reflection, the detective indulged in playing his favorite musical instrument - the violin.

Step 1
Sherlock Holmes is a fictional character born of the power of the imagination of Arthur Conan Doyle. The author devoted more than fifty stories and four stories to the adventures of his hero. In most of the plots, the famous London detective is accompanied by his friend and biographer Dr. Watson, who, with the light hand of Russian translators and filmmakers, has turned into Watson. From the doctor's notes, the reader learns about Holmes' musical predilections.
Step 2
The famous detective is an extraordinary and mysterious person. When he first met his future companion, Dr. Watson wonders for several days who his flatmate really is. He does not look like a scientist, although he does chemical experiments. He has a bunch of master keys at his disposal, but Holmes is also not suitable for the role of the leader of the criminal community. The ability of Sherlock Holmes to play music completely turns Watson into a dead end. Only a few days after meeting, the doctor learns that Sherlock Holmes is a tireless crime fighter.

Having got to know Holmes better, Watson is surprised to find that the talented detective plays the violin superbly. This musical instrument does not fit in any way with other addictions of Sherlock Holmes. Watson is convinced that the detective has extraordinary mental abilities, is excellent in logic and his deductive method of investigating the most confusing stories. Why, then, in his spare moments, does he not build, for example, chess combinations, but play the violin with pleasure?
Step 4
For Holmes, investigating crimes is a kind of art, like music. In his life, there are rarely dizzying pursuits. The detective unravels a significant part of the cases without leaving the living room of his apartment, which he shares with Watson. The picture of the crime gradually looms in the head of the detective, who ponders for a long time over the facts known to him.
Step 5
The train of human thought, according to Holmes, resembles a piece of music in its beauty. That is why the detective, in moments of reflection, takes up the violin and bow. Playing the instrument was for Sherlock Holmes not only a way of relaxation, it made it possible to concentrate on the affairs about which he pondered intensely in the long evenings.
Step 6
Holmes not only owns excellent violin, but also does not miss the opportunity to listen to famous performers. In the story "The Union of Redheads," the detective frees his evening from business to attend the concert of the famous Spanish violinist. From Watson's notes, the reader learns that Holmes prefers Wagner to all other composers. Quite an exquisite choice for a man who spends almost all of his time fighting the underworld of London and its environs.
