Every year, on one of the days of Russia's military glory - September 8 - the victory of the Russian army in the Battle of Borodino in 1812 is celebrated. In 2012, the holiday celebrates its 200th anniversary. In honor of such an event, large-scale events will be held throughout Russia. But the main events will take place in Moscow.
2012 marks the bicentennial of the victory of Russian troops over Napoleon. Due to the round date, the holiday was given federal status, which means: preparation for the event is controlled at the highest level, and the President of the Russian Federation himself monitors how the Day of Military Glory will be held in Moscow. The head of the country even created a special group responsible for preparing the event.
Festive events dedicated to the Day of Military Glory began in Moscow a few weeks before the official holiday. On August 13, a three-month horse trek started from Poklonnaya Gora, dedicated to the feat of the soldiers of the Russian army. The name of the trip speaks for itself: "Moscow - Paris". The cavalry consists of 23 Cossacks, dressed in military uniforms from the early 19th century. They will cross six European countries, in each of which small theatrical performances await spectators.
On September 1, as part of the celebration of the Day of Military Glory in Moscow, the Museum of the Patriotic War of 1812 was opened on Revolution Square. The new state museum has an unusual design: it is a two-level structure with a transparent roof. Also on September 1, the festival “1812. Epoch and People”in the Moscow park“Krasnaya Presnya”. And on the Day of Military Glory itself, an event will be held in this place, illustrating the hostilities between the Russians and the French. The main participants will be employees of the historical reconstruction clubs.
The main venue for the celebrations will be the Borodino field itself. The opening ceremony will take place in the village of Shevardino, at the command post of Napoleon. An important stage in the festive program of the Day of Military Glory in Moscow will be a parade with the participation of military history clubs. More than 120 organizations from Russia, USA, Canada and European countries will be involved in this event. Interestingly, among the participants there will be direct descendants of the warriors of 1812.
