Mark Hughes is a famous Welsh footballer who played as a striker. For a long time he played for the English club Manchester United. Since 1999 he has been engaged in a coaching career.
Biography
On the first day of November 1963, the future footballer and coach Leslie Mark Hughes was born in the largest city in the north of Wales, Wrexham. Since childhood, the boy had a love for the most popular game in the world, he loved to play a ball in the yard and watch football broadcasts on TV with his family. After leaving school, he had the chance to show his talents in one of the best clubs in England - Manchester United. Hughes got to see the "red devils" thanks to the club's breeder Hugh Roberts. Despite the great excitement, Mark was able to show his talents and, as a result of the viewing, was admitted to the youth team of the club, where he received an excellent sports education.
Career
Since Hughes joined the youth squad quite old, he spent only two years at the academy before signing a professional contract with the club. The first appearance on the field took place three years later in 1983 as part of the Football League Cup match against the modest team Port Vale. The first season for Hughes was "lapping", he appeared on the field quite rarely and mostly came out as a substitute. Seventeen appearances and five goals scored marked the end of the 83/84 season for Mark Hughes. But from the next year he began to appear regularly in the starting lineup and ultimately became entrenched in the base. In total, before joining the Catalan club, Hughes made 121 appearances in the colors of the Red Devils and scored 47 goals.
In 1986, Mark Hughes agreed on a personal contract with Barcelona and moved to Spain. After playing one season for the Blue Garnet, Hughes moved on loan for one year to the German Bayern Munich. Traveling to Spain and Germany did not bring trophies to the talented footballer, and in 1988 he returned to his native Manchester United. Six years in the Red Devils' camp added 352 games to Hughes, in which he scored 116 goals. With Manchester United, he won the national championship twice, lifted the FA Cup three times, and in 1991 he won the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup and the European Super Cup with Manchester.
End of playing and beginning of coaching career
In 1995, Hughes left Manchester United and moved to the camp of the principal rivals in the national championship - London Chelsea. This move added the FA Cup and UEFA Cup to Mark's trophy box. Hughes ended his playing career in 2002 at Blackburn Rovers. And two years later he headed the club as head coach. Hughes has managed to coach Manchester City, QPR, Fulham and Stoke City. In March 2018, he signed with Southampton, but a flimsy start to the season and poor performance led to Hughes' resignation. He played his last match as coach of the Saints on December 1, 2018.
