short biography

Jeremy William Fredrick Smith, better known to viewers as Jeremy Irwin, was born on June 18, 1990 in a small settlement called Gamlingay, Cambridgeshire, England. The history of choosing a stage name is connected with the actor's grandfather Irwin Smith, whom Jeremy loved and respected very much. Therefore, when it became necessary to choose a pseudonym, he settled on the name of his grandfather, which he began to use as his last name.

As for the actor's parents, it is known from various sources that his father Chris Smith worked as an engineer. And mother Bridget Smith was involved in politics. She was an advisor to the Liberal Democratic Party on the South Cambridgeshire District Council.

Jeremy is not the only child in the family. He became the firstborn of Chris and Bridget, and later his younger brothers Lawrence and Toby were born. Toby is also fond of acting and, together with his older brother, managed to star in Mike Newell's Great Expectations.

However, as a child, Jeremy Irwin did not show much interest in acting. Everything changed dramatically when the young man was sixteen years old. One of his teachers at Bedford Modern School invited him to play a small role in a theatrical production. The performance on the stage inspired the young man so much that he became seriously interested in theater. And after graduating from high school, he began attending the National Youth Theater to improve his acting skills.

Later, he completed a one-year course at one of the best British drama schools, The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. After completing his acting course, Jeremy Irwin attended various auditions for almost two years and tried to get the role. This period was not easy for him. Sometimes Jeremy wanted to give up the profession of an actor and go to his father's company, where he could help the family and work in peace. But luck smiled at the young man, and he got the main role in one of Steven Spielberg's paintings.

Career and creativity

Jeremy Irwin made his acting debut in 2009, when he landed a supporting role as Luke on the television series Life Bites. He appeared in twelve episodes of this serial film, which became a real success for the aspiring actor. He has also appeared with the Royal Shakespeare Company and has even played several key roles in various productions, including Dunsinane. However, Jeremy was weighed down by the fact that he was not realized as a film actor.

The lack of offers to act in films and television projects made him think about changing his profession. But, unexpectedly, he landed the lead role of Albert Narracott in Steven Spielberg's adventure drama War Horse. This event changed Irwin's life. The film was liked by the audience and was a huge commercial success. Jeremy Irwin also received universal recognition and love from fans.

In 2012, he played the main character Adam in Ola Parker's melodrama "Now is the Time". The famous American actress and fashion model Dakota Fanning became his partner on the set. The film received good reviews from critics and showed good fees.

However, in the same year, Jeremy Irwin appeared in Mike Newell's drama Great Expectations, the plot of which is based on the novel of the same name by Charles Dickens. He played one of the key characters in the film - an orphan named Pip. This role was another breakthrough in Jeremy's career after appearing in the movie "War Horse". And, despite the rather modest box office, the picture received rave reviews from film critics and allowed Irwin to re-establish himself as a talented actor.
