Could the parents of Sergei Ivanovich Furgal, in the distant 1970, have assumed that they were taking the future governor of the Khabarovsk Territory from the maternity hospital? Of course not, however, like Sergei himself, who graduated from the medical institute in Blagoveshchensk in 1992.
Sergey officially became a businessman in 1999. However, while still working as a doctor, he was successfully engaged in the import of Chinese consumer goods. However, the time was such in the country that a huge number of people worked as shuttle traders. And here is the proximity of a country in which there is a lot of this good. It was a sin not to earn extra money on this.
By the beginning of the new century, it turned out that reselling cheap Chinese things did not make much money, and Sergei switched to selling timber to China. And the Chinese comrades have long existed for the Far Eastern forest. And if it also turns out to be a real cedar, then absolutely beauty! This is how Alkuma LLC appeared, in which Sergey became the general director.
When the routes to China are established, it is possible to expand the range of supplies. This is how another limited liability company MIF-Khabarovsk was born. It has chosen the collection of ferrous scrap as its type of activity. Sounds harmless enough. All sorts of pieces of iron, freely lying around, spoil the species and the ecology. But these pieces of iron were not only scrap, but everything that could be brought under it. For example, agricultural machinery. Or ships. There is a lot of iron in them.
It was around this time that Furgal became interested in politics. Of all the political parties he liked the Liberal Democratic Party. So in 2005, Sergei Ivanovich became the coordinator of the Khabarovsk regional branch of the Liberal Democratic Party and a deputy of the regional parliament of the Khabarovsk Territory. Further more. From 2007 to 2018 Sergey Furgal was already a deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation.
For the first time, Furgal ran for the post of governor of the Khabarovsk Territory in 2013, but lost to his rival Vyacheslav Shport. Then Sergei Ivanovich himself scored 19, 14%. In 2018, the situation changed, and Furgal became Governor, gaining almost 70% of the vote.
Furgal began his career with a major cut in government procurement spending. This helped to save over 150 million rubles. Sergei Ivanovich received great support from the population after cutting his salary as governor. The reduction was significant considering that the predecessor's salary was almost 1.5 million rubles a month. Furgal himself appointed a modest 400 thousand.
Considering that the Khabarovsk Territory is deeply subsidized and has debts of about 50 billion rubles, these reductions are not very noticeable, although the people turned out to be very sympathetic.
