Biography
Paul Ekman is Native American. His homeland is the District of Columbia, where the scientist was born in 1934, on February 15th. The family changed their place of residence many times and little Paul visited Washington, Newark, sunny California, Oregon towns. Studying was easy for the boy, and after graduating from secondary education, Paul Ekman continued to improve his knowledge of the world, graduating from two universities at once - New York and Chicago universities.
Career and research
Paul Ekman has published so many works on psychology in his life that he is deservedly considered the most respected psychologist of the last century. He has published over a hundred research articles on non-verbal human behavior. The American Psychological Association included him in the top ten world experts, which included Hagard, W. V. Friesen.
The professor made his first steps in the field of psychology at the University of Adelphi, where he prepared his Ph. D. thesis. In 1958, Paul Ekman completed an internship as a clinical psychologist in the laboratories of the neuropsychiatric institute. He worked as a military psychologist and holds the rank of lieutenant. After defending his doctorate, in 1972, the professor of psychology settled in San Francisco, where his place of work was the School of Medicine.
Work and travel
1965 was a good year for a psychologist. He was given a research grant, which he started back in the 50s. Observing micromovements, studying how a person's face changes in emotional moments, Paul Ekman made a number of important conclusions about human behavior that became of interest to the US defense department. In the sixties, the scientist made a number of business trips to the wildest places on the planet, where he confirmed his discoveries using examples of wordless communication of members of the tribe of New Guinea.
In 1978, the famous monograph on the coding system for facial movements was published. With the development of computer technology, Paul Ekman linked the capabilities of technology and psychology to automate the analysis of the smallest movements of the facial muscles.
Paul Ekman is considered the consummate analyst of the widespread phenomenon of lies. The scientist began to recognize deceitful behavior during the years of work on clinical cases of suicide.

Currently, the great American psychologist is retired. However, he expanded the spectrum of his work to educate ordinary people in the field of psychology. Paul Ekman owns a company that creates special simulators to develop skills in understanding the nature of microexpressions and emotions.
