The comrade's father was a carpenter. Vladimir often came to watch this professional work. Then the boy returned home and made such airplanes out of wood, which were very similar to miniature copies of the real ones.

The boy began to draw early. At the age of 13, he made sketches in a notebook that he carried with him.

As Vladimir Gerasimovich said, seeing one of the children in the yard, he sat them on a bench and painted portraits of these children.

When the boy was in the tenth grade, he was offered to teach drawing. And he was practically the same age as those for whom he became a teacher. After graduating from school and receiving secondary education, Vladimir went to Leningrad to enroll in an art school. But the young man failed. Before that, the guy watched the film "Surikov", then he acted like that great artist. Vladimir Gerasimovich Mishin also vowed to himself that he would do it, and, ultimately, he succeeded.

Young artists were allocated 400 rubles each so that they could hire models to paint. As Vladimir Gerasimovich later said, he came to the Lenfilm studio to find models. There was no end of those wishing to earn that kind of money. Therefore, Vladimir quietly called some girl to draw her. He also said that 10 naked women could walk in his workshop at the same time. He and a friend made the famous Chelyabinsk mosaic panel for a year, and before that Mishin had been thinking up a project for 4 years. As a result, he chose the most economical option.

For this mosaic, 40 tons of basalt were chopped at the factory. Then this material was transported by train and unloaded, but the artists were not informed. When Mishin and his friend came to this place, they saw that there was not enough basalt. Then, with difficulty, they managed to arrange for the missing material to be brought.

The artists made panels throughout 1976 - from early morning until late at night.
