Gediminas Taranda is not only a famous ballet dancer throughout the country. He amazed viewers with his participation in the television shows "King of the Ring" and "Ice Age". At first, the creative life of the dancer was very successful. But he did not manage to avoid the blows and pricks of fate.
Gediminas Leonovich Taranda: facts from the biography
The future ballet dancer was born in Kaliningrad on February 26, 1961. His mother's ancestors were from the Cossacks, his father was a colonel. After several years of marriage, Taranda's parents divorced. After that, the mother and children moved to Voronezh.
In his youth, Gediminas was passionate about sports: canoeing, wrestling, judo and football. Mom worked at the local opera and ballet theater, thanks to which the young man could attend performances. This largely determined the professional choice of Gediminas.
In 1974, Taranda entered the Voronezh Choreographic School, and after two years of hard work he became a student at the Moscow Choreographic School. After graduation, distribution took place: this is how Gediminas ended up at the Bolshoi Theater.
For the first time on stage, Taranda performed in the play "Don Quixote". The artist's debut was not the most successful: Taranda forgot to take off his woolen socks and was late with the stage. In addition, he also fell. However, the dizzying career of the talented ballet dancer began precisely from that moment.
Creative career of Gediminas Taranda
In the 80s, the audience went to the Great Hall not so much to see the ballet: everyone was eager to see the talented artist with their own eyes. Especially for Gediminas, Yuri Grigorovich staged the performances "The Golden Age" and "Raymonda".
In 1984, the young actor went abroad for the first time with a touring group. He had a chance to perform in Mexico. After that, Gediminas began to get into trouble due to relations with the management: for four years the artist was banned from leaving the country. In 1993, Taranda was dismissed from the Bolshoi Theater altogether.
Gediminas did not despair: literally a year later he organized the Imperial Russian Ballet. Forty people were recruited into the troupe. The repertoire of the theater was quite rich: it included 15 of the best performances. Taranda managed to preserve in this project the glorious traditions of Russian ballet and raise this art to new heights.
Already in 2004, Gediminas was admitted as an actor to the Mossovet Theater.
The famous dancer is also known to the public for his participation in the projects "Ice Age" and "King of the Ring". The famous and titled Irina Slutskaya became Gediminas' partner on the ice. The couple delighted the audience with their professional skills more than once.
