In May 2012, the film "Moonrise Kingdom" opened the Cannes Film Festival, and almost all the stars involved in the film attended the premiere. Critics and audiences alike welcomed the on-screen tale of first love, set in the vibrant scenery of the sixties.
Director Wes Anderson defines the film's genre as "ironic retro comedy." The action in "Kingdom of the Full Moon" is set in New England in the sixties of the twentieth century. The main characters are teenagers Sam played by Jared Gilman and Suzy played by Kara Hayward. The guys get to know each other during an amateur production of the play and quickly find a common language, since both are "white crows". Sam is an orphan, he whiled away the summer at the Boy Scout camp, and Suzy is in the company of a flighty mother and quiet father, played by the famous comedian Bill Murray. After meeting backstage, the characters exchange addresses and start texting. Their epistolary romance lasts almost a year, and, finally, firmly deciding that life without each other is not sweet for them, Suzy and Sam decide to run away together, which they also agree on in the correspondence.
Upon learning that teenagers have disappeared in a small sleepy town, the sheriff (Bruce Willis), who had previously spent all his time fishing, raised the alarm by raising a detachment of volunteers. The math teacher, a leader in the Boy Scout detachment (Edward Norton), also joins in the search, but he has his own plan to catch the fugitives. And Sam and Suzy are looking for a sinister from social services (Tilda Swinton), who is in a hurry to find naughty children in order to apply her favorite method of punishment to them - electroshock.
In all this confusion, only Suzy's dad remains suspiciously calm: he, unlike other adults, has not yet forgotten how he himself was twelve years old and in love for the first time, and covers the guys in order to let them enjoy a bright and innocent feeling.
The matter is complicated by the fact that a hurricane is approaching the city. At the same time, when lightning strikes one of the characters, he becomes the same cartoon - this original idea brought the director additional praise from film critics.
The young couple, masterly breaking away from numerous pursuers, moves with a map in their hands to their cherished goal: a cave called "Kingdom of the Full Moon". By a lucky coincidence, they find shelter on a desert island, where Sam first confesses his love to Suzy. Like Romeo and Juliet, the heroes try to confront the whole world together, however, unlike Shakespeare's plays, in Wes Anderson's film everything ends with the viewer watching the credits with a smile on his face.
