The young man Jason regularly buys films about the Chinese martial art of kung fu in Chinatown from the seller Hu. It is not hard to guess that the seller is of the same nationality. One day Jason finds an artifact in Hu's store - the Pole of the Monkey King. On the same day, a local gang tries to rob Jason and he is forced to return to the store. With the help of the artifact, Hu copes with the gang, but is mortally wounded and manages to hand over the Pole to Jason with a request to return to the owner.
With the help of the same artifact, Jason finds himself in the Forbidden Kingdom. As the name of the relic suggests, it is necessary to return it to the Monkey King, who is currently imprisoned in stone due to the treachery of the royal commander. With the transfer of the artifact, the prediction of the awakening of the Monkey King comes true.
During the journey, Jason is helped by several characters, including a girl named Golden Sparrow. In the end, he was able to transfer the artifact to the owner and return to our world. But the story doesn't end there. Old Hu is alive thanks to the timely help of doctors, and in a gift shop called the Golden Sparrow, Jason meets a girl with the same name.
Of course, shocked by such events, he continues to practice the ancient art of kung fu.

Both Chinese and American artists are involved in the filming. Two world-class stars at once became the heroes of the film. These are Jackie Chan (played two roles at once - the seller of discs Hu and the monk Lu Yan) and Jet Li (also two characters - the monk who stole the Sixth, and the monkey king Sun Wukong).
