The first Miss Universe contest was initiated by a swimwear design and sales firm and was held back in 1952 in California. Initially, representatives of 29 countries took part in the competition. Russia, for example, has been participating in this competition only since the mid-nineties, in contrast to France, Canada and Germany, which since the founding of the competition have not missed a single competition in this kind of beauty contest.
Selection
Traditionally, participants in the category "not married and not pregnant" aged 18 to 27 years after passing the qualifying round in their country are admitted to the competition. Fifteen candidates selected by the judges in electronic voting and one candidate who received the most votes from viewers will reach the final.
Few remember, but Miss Universe was just an advertising campaign, a successful marketing ploy. However, after a couple of years, he became the basis of sales growth in the beauty and entertainment industry, offering housewives the stories of Cinderella.
Among the contestants, they hold a fashion show in swimsuits, evening dresses and a competition of questions from the judges. Traditionally, the most beautiful girl in the world receives a rolling tiara, symbolizing her high title, an apartment in New York, and a one-year contract for events and promotions initiated by the competition committee.
It is interesting that initially it was customary to hold the competition only in the United States, and only in 1972 the competition was first held in Puerto Rico, and then in Greece, in Athens. Since then, it has been customary to hold the competition annually in various parts of the world, regularly expanding the geography of its participants.
Business on beauty
In 2013, for the first time in its 60-year history, the competition was also held in the Russian Federation. Previously, the duration of the competition reached a whole month, however, starting from the 90s, the tests were brought to a two-week period and are held, as a rule, in May-June of each year.
It is interesting that the competition has its competitors, which are no less significant Miss World and Miss Earth.
