Biography
Was born on April 5, 1962 in the city of Elista. From childhood I began to take a great interest in chess. In 1977, at the age of 15, he headed the adult chess team of Kalmykia. In 1979, Kirsan graduated from school with a gold medal. After school, he worked for 1 year at the Zvezda plant as an assembly fitter. Since 1980 he served in the army, in the North Caucasus Military District, graduated as a senior sergeant. After completing his service in 1982, he entered the Moscow State Institute of International Relations. At the university he held the position of deputy secretary of the party committee. On a false denunciation of fellow students, he was expelled in 1988 from the institute and from the party. After Ilyumzhinov's letters to Mikhail Sergeevich Gorbachev and Eduard Shevardnadze, and at the end of the six-month trial, he was reinstated at the institute, and all charges were dropped.
After graduating from high school, Kirsan begins a serious, adult life. In 1989, he took up the position of Business Unit Manager at Mitsubishi Corporation. In 1990 he was elected People's Deputy of the RSFSR. After working at Mitsubishi, he took up commercial activities in earnest. He headed the international association "Sun". Later, Kirsan founded the Kalmyk bank Steppe, invested his capital in textile enterprises and invested in restaurants and hotels. Since 1993 he has been the President of the Russian Chamber of Entrepreneurs.
On April 1, 1993, Ilyumzhinov, gaining 65.4% of the vote, was elected the first president of the Republic of Kalmykia. In 1995, Kirsan Nikolaevich was again early re-elected to the presidency, this time for 7 years. And after winning in 2002 in the second round of the presidential race, he headed the republic for the third time. In 2005, Vladimir Putin was appointed head of the Republic of Kalmykia, and after 5 years, following the policy of rejuvenating personnel, he left this post.
In 1995, Kirsan Nikolaevich became the President of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) for the first time. In the fall of 2010, he took the FIDE President's seat again, ahead of Anatoly Karpov in votes. In 2017, FIDE announced that Ilyumzhinov was resigning, but Kirsan denied this information. On July 13, 2018, the FIDE Ethics Commission removed Ilyumzhinov from the presidency "for violating the FIDE Code of Ethics."
Personal life
Kirsan Ilyumzhinov was married twice. For the first time, Danara Davashka became his wife. He met her at school. In 1990, their son David was born in their family. According to Kirsan, his son was fond of chess at school and took first places in competitions there. David studied at an ordinary institute as a geographer. Earns money with transfers. The second love of the millionaire was Lyudmila Razumova. Also, Kirsan Nikolaevich has another child - daughter Alina. Ilyumzhinov loves to travel the world and do shopping. Always dresses with taste, preferring the famous brands Brioni and Bally. He also loves expensive watches. He always carries a talisman with him - a 57-carat Indian sapphire.
In 1992, Kirsan met the famous Bulgarian soothsayer Vanga. Repeatedly visited her. Vanga predicted that he would occupy two presidential chairs at the same time, and was not mistaken, Ilyumzhinov became the president of Kalmykia and FIDE.
In honor of Ilyumzhinov, an asteroid (5570) and the main square in City Chess are named.
