Paul Peel was born in a small Canadian city called London. His parents have been interested in creativity all their lives, but they were from another place. After moving to Canada, they found a job relatively quickly. The artist's father worked as a stone carver and also taught drawing lessons at a local school. Gradually, he began to teach his craft and his son.
If we talk about historical facts, then they indicate that earlier on the site of the young artist's hometown there were several Indian settlements.
Gradually, Europeans began to populate it. And at a time when more than 10 thousand people already lived in London, the artist's parents arrived there, he worked exclusively in an academic style. The couple had eight children, they were brought up mainly in a creative environment. The parents paid the most attention to Paul and his younger sister named Mildred, since they discovered their talent for painting from an early age. If we talk about the childhood of a young artist, then it took place in a village called Fansho Pioneer. Later, the artist will constantly depict this place in his paintings.
Currently, this village is a real museum, moreover, in the open air. Its employees are dressed in costumes of the old era, and the streets with houses have been carefully cleaned, restored and capable of transporting tourists into the past in a few moments. The village also has a large farm, a wood processing plant, and a luxury hotel.
Education
Paul was educated not only by his parents; later he was taught to paint landscapes by William Lees Judson. It was this artist who instilled in Paul an incredible love of the academic style. As soon as Paul began to acquire more and more artistic skills, he decided to leave Canada and travel to Pennsylvania to attend the Academy.
Thomas Eakins was the director and principal instructor of the academy while Paul Peel was studying there. He taught artists in various methods. Students studied anatomy, as well as perspective, even art history, various drawing techniques, not only still lifes, but also portraits. Eakins believed that any talented artist should want to study the world visually. The teacher also used another teaching method: he invited his students to draw sketches immediately with a brush and paints. In the life of the artist, there were still many teachers who instilled in him the skills he needed for work.
A family
In the city of Pont-Aven, the artist met Isaura Fanchetta Verdier, she was an excellent artist of Danish origin.
Gradually, Paul began to spend more and more time with this adorable girl and build a personal life with her. And relatively quickly they made the decision to get married. The couple had only two children.
Creation
At first, his mother-in-law acted as the artist's impresario; she was able to sell his first painting, which was called "Two Friends". The Princess of Wales herself acquired this work of art.
The artist loved to travel to Europe as well as Canada. He regularly participated in various exhibitions as a member of the Society of Artists. Paul considered his most beloved style called female nude. On public display, he exhibited several of his works - "The Shy Model", as well as "The Venetian Bather." Paul Peel managed to gain international recognition at the height of his career. During his lifetime, not every artist was able to do this.
