Family, early years

Roman Polanski was born on August 18, 1933. The family lived in Paris. Roman's parents are Polish Jews. When their son was 3 years old, they began to live in Poland again. During the war, they ended up in the ghetto, while Roman escaped. He was taken in by a Polish family living on a farm.

Roman's mother died, but his father survived and was able to find his son. At the insistence of his father, Roman began to study at a technical school, but he dreamed of doing creative work. The decisive role was played by the movie "Out of the Game" he saw.

Creative biography

In 1953, Polanski met with the director Vaida Andrzej, who invited him to the filming of the film Generation. He saw that there was a lot of potential in the young man, and he helped to enter the film school. However, Polanski did not finish his studies, as the topic of the diploma seemed uninteresting to him.

The novel made several short films, then his film "Knife in the Water" was released. In Poland, the picture was received coolly, but abroad it became successful, it was even presented at the Oscar.

Polanski began to live in England and continued to engage in filmmaking. In 1965, the film "Disgust" appeared with Deneuve Catherine. The tape became successful, received several awards. Polanski himself considers the film "Dead End", which was released a year later, to be his best work.

The picture "Rosemary's Child" (1968), which marked the beginning of the fashion for mysticism, received great success. The film has won many awards, and several remakes have been made on its basis.

After the release of the picture, a tragedy occurred in the director's family - his pregnant wife and 3 friends were killed by sectarians. Polanski left for Europe, where he shot several more films. The film "Chinese Service" is considered the best of his work in the 70s. Of the subsequent paintings, "Bitter Moon" became bright, but it received many negative reviews.

In 1977, Roman was accused of molesting a 13-year-old girl, and he pleaded guilty. To avoid punishment, Polanski fled the United States to Europe. He was arrested in 2009 when the director was in Switzerland. His colleagues stood up for Roman, the United States was denied extradition. And in 2017, the victim asked to dismiss the case.

Soon a new scandal erupted, caused by the fact that instead of punishment Polanski was given the post of chairman of the Cesar Prize. After that, Roman resigned from this position.
