The gothic subculture is distinguished by a large number of trends, but all representatives are united by a specific image and interest in gothic music.

Culture ready

Appearance for the Goths is a kind of fetish and a way of identifying with like-minded people. Every detail of their wardrobe carries a certain meaning and philosophy. In fact, the Gothic subculture is individual and does not have clear boundaries of self-expression, and therefore the Gothic style is divided into several directions.

So, for example, there are "antique" Goths who, in their image, prefer the style of certain historical eras. This style does not mandate the use of black in clothing. The so-called corporate slaves wear strict office suits and hardly stand out from ordinary people. Androgynous Goths rip off the sexual boundaries by dressing in such a way that it was impossible to understand what gender they are. A separate part of the community is ready to gravitate towards the vampire aesthetics. They often augment or implant long canines, sometimes use dentures with canines, and prefer a romantic style in their clothes, similar to the "antique".

Appearance ready

It is a stereotype that all goths only wear black clothes. Goths are not so conservative about their appearance, they do not have a clear dress code. Clothing is primarily intended to express their uniqueness, which is why most of the people dressed in black did this to identify themselves as cultural.

However, the overwhelming majority of people who consider themselves to be in this direction still wear black. This is because people who have chosen Gothic as their subculture find themselves in it because of their specific worldview. Their mental organization is somewhat different from the usual one - it is subject to the influence of the external environment, which is not always prosperous. The Gothic subculture is introverted, i.e. focused on the inner world of a person, and focuses on passive rejection of the outside world.

People are more accustomed to dividing good and bad into light and dark colors. And negative experiences, depression, loss of loved ones, problems with self-identification with people around and other gloomy manifestations, at a subconscious level, are associated with a dark color. Thus, people who consider themselves to be a Gothic culture have a desire to express their inner state through an appearance, in which black prevails.

It is important to remember that Gothic is a style of self-expression, and yet it does not have clear criteria and ideological attitudes.
