The sexual revolution is a process of fundamental changes in the moral foundations of society, characterized by the transformation of sexual relations. It is believed that the main events of this revolution took place in the 70s.
The appearance of the term
Changes in attitudes towards sex in society are primarily associated with the structure of power. In ancient times, sexual abuse could be ritualistic. The symbolism in the performance of intercourse was replaced by the vision of sex as a taboo. At the beginning of the 20th century, even partial exposure of the body was condemned. Sex before marriage was unacceptable. The attitude towards contraception and abortion was strongly negative.
But already in the 1920s in America, the old foundations began to be broken. People are freer, a decade of jazz and partying is coming into its own. In the 30s, Reich's book "The Sexual Revolution" was published, highlighting this term for the first time.
He described his own program for transforming society, based on the authorization of abortion, divorce, contraception and sexuality education.
The birth of the sexual revolution
The society of the last century, up to a certain point, considered gender relations through the prism of Christian morality. The taboo on a number of actions has given rise to the tradition of being "stuck" in this matter. Freud's work was one of the first steps towards the study of sexuality. He connected the entire theory of psychoanalysis with sex and its influence on personality.
In Russia, in the 1920s, the "theory of a glass of water" appeared. Its essence is simple: having intercourse is as simple as drinking a glass of water. The authorship of the work was attributed to many activists of the Soviet Union, including Aleksandra Kollontai. The party fought against this doctrine, considering it bourgeois intrigues.
In fact, the left-wing radical parties in many countries spread free morals and contributed to the development of the sexual revolution. But their actions were not particularly successful.
The rise of the sexual revolution
When people talk about how the sexual revolution took place, they most often mean the events of the 70s. This is due to the growing up of the post-war generation. Power no longer has such power over the ethical side of society. Young people begin to rebel, listen to rock and preach freedom. Back in the 60s, a hippie culture appears, advocating a world without war and free love.
The consequences of this revolution were the development of new genres of music, subcultures of "children of the sun", groupies. Many films are still devoted to the topic of sexual reformation.
The sexual revolution has liberated society by completely changing its way of thinking.
