The February Revolution undoubtedly influenced the path of Russia. No matter how much historians argue about its usefulness, this event deserves attention and interest, if only because it has its own, albeit small, but its own interesting history.

Prerequisites

Revolution of 1905-1907 practically did not solve the problems posed to her. The questions of overthrowing the autocracy, the introduction of democratic provisions, and the resolution of the problems of the peasantry and workers were just as acute. In addition, by 1917 the people felt exhausted from the protracted war. The slogans "Down with the war!" Appeared more and more often. The food supply was poor.

As a result, a number of strikes took place. First, the mutiny engulfed the Putilov factory. This happened on February 18, 1917. The workers demanded higher wages. there was absolutely not enough money even for the most necessary things. As a result, the company's management fired employees and closed several workshops. But this did not solve the problem, but on the contrary contributed to the growth of strikes. The number of people attending the rally became more and more.

February 27

As a result of the strike, the authorities gave the order to shoot the demonstrators, which was a big mistake. As a result, the government lost its support in the form of state armed forces. These troops refused to shoot the protesters and eventually went over to their side. The culmination of the revolution came on February 27, when it became clear that the government, having lost support and assistance, could no longer resist the revolutionary actions of the workers.

As a result, in the afternoon, members of the government from the Mariinsky Palace sent a message to Emperor Nicholas II (the day before he left for Headquarters). The telegram said that the Council of Ministers was no longer able to contain the coup. In the evening, around midnight, the revolutionaries broke into the palace and arrested I. G. Shcheglovitov, who at that time was the chairman of the state council. The coup was accomplished.

The fruits of the revolution

The revolution mainly contributed to the end of the rule of the Romanov dynasty. Nicholas II had no choice but to abdicate the throne. Neither his son nor his brother Mikhail dared to take power into their own hands. As a result, there were no successors left, and the Provisional Government of 12 people was formed as a government body, the chairman of which was G. Lvov.

Thus, the autocracy was overthrown, and the Provisional Government was now in charge of the executive and legislative powers. This authority published a declaration that contained a number of provisions that spoke about the introduction of democratic freedoms.

But the problem is that, together with the Provisional Government, the Petrograd Soviet came to power. This time is usually called dual power. The instability and precariousness of the situation contributed to the beginning of the October Revolution.
