Carla Suarez Navarro is a Spanish tennis player, winner of five WTA tournaments, the former sixth racket in the world in singles. The young athlete is known for her charitable work and unconditional dedication to her family.
Biography
Carla Suarez was born in the Spanish town of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in early September 1988. Jose Luis's father played handball professionally, Lali's mother was a gymnast, and with the birth of her older brother, Jose, she began to work as a teacher, without leaving, however, playing sports with her children.
Navarro's husband and wife created a real sports family. From early childhood, their children were involved in a variety of sports disciplines, but as a result, both Jose and Carla chose tennis. Brother Jose began playing at the age of nine, and in 2007 he moved from the Canary Islands to Barcelona to train at the tennis Pro-Ab Academy. Soon, the younger sister followed him.
Career
Carla Suarez carefully prepared for the transition to the "adult" professional tennis league, performing in many junior competitions in Spain. Karla's biggest success was her victory in the 2006 U18 European Championship, where she beat the famous favorites, Korne and Kyrstiu.
The Spaniard began attending adult tournaments back in 2002, got into the singles rating in 2004, and soon, having gained good experience, in 2006 won against Lourdes Dominguez Lino, then the 45th racket of the world. In 2009, seeing the success of the ambitious athlete, Karla began to be recruited to compete for the Federation Cup team. In the same year, Suarez defeated the famous Venus Williams and made his way to the Grand Slam quarterfinals.
2012 was a crisis period for Karla. She did not lose to "average" opponents, but she also did not show any outstanding results. But 2013 became much more successful for the tennis player. By the end of the first summer month, she entered the top 20, simultaneously beating the ninth racket in the world, and then Karla's results began to improve, and in 2016 she achieved the most significant title of her career, the WTA Premier 5.
By 2019, Karla was not ready due to an injury she received last season. Coming to the court of the US Open, Suarez lost in the first round and abandoned further struggle, taking a break to recover.
Personal life
In her free time from sports, Karla loves to be creative, loves to tinker with sculptural clay, loves music and sentimental films. The athlete does not yet plan to start her own family, giving all her strength to big sports, but she is affectionately attached to her parents and her older brother, with whom she spends her free days. And Suarez is also involved in charity work, for example, he travels to Uganda, where he trains teenagers and helps them start a sports education.
