If you strictly follow the letter of the law, Russia has agreements on dual citizenship only with Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. However, no one will prohibit a Russian from having at least 10 additional citizenships, if the laws of the respective countries do not require renouncing Russian citizenship when accepting the local one.

It is necessary

  • - a package of documents confirming the grounds for obtaining a different citizenship;
  • - an existing passport with a translation into the state language of the respective country and confirmation of the legality of staying there (visa, residence permit, residence permit, migration card or other document);
  • - a receipt for payment for the services of the migration department.

Instructions

Step 1

The list of grounds for the adoption of citizenship and the requirements for the documents confirming them, the terms and procedure for considering the issue, the structures authorized for this are fully determined by the legislation and by-laws of a particular country.

Most often, the basis is legal residence on its territory for a certain period (on average from 2 to 5 years), there may also be a large investment of at least a certain amount in the economy, belonging to the titular nation of the state, special services to it, etc.

Depending on your case, you should collect and properly draw up documents, send them where they should, and wait for a decision.

Step 2

Russia, when granting its citizenship, requires the renunciation of the existing one. But here there is one bureaucratic nuance. As confirmation of the refusal, you need to provide the FMS with a copy of the notarized renunciation of the existing citizenship and a postal receipt of its sending to the consulate of your country.

However, for many states, this piece of paper is nothing more than a filkin letter. And until a person himself renounces citizenship in the manner established by their laws, he remains a citizen of this country with all the rights and obligations.

But it all depends on the country. For example, this is exactly the case with Ukraine, and the citizenship of Uzbekistan is automatically lost if someone else is accepted.

Step 3

A newborn, whose parents have different citizenships, or at least one of them has several of them, completely legally becomes a citizen of two or more states, if the laws of all these countries allow a child to automatically enter their citizenship, at least one of whose parents is their citizen.

In some cases, this does not require additional formalities. In others, you will have to contact the diplomatic mission of the state abroad or an authorized body on its territory and go through the procedure provided for by the laws of a particular country.

Step 4

Any child born on the territory of the state, including in a family of foreigners, automatically becomes a US citizen. But for this reason, the chances of a pregnant woman, especially at a later date, of getting an American visa are practically zero.

Previously, Ireland also provided citizenship by land law and residence permits to parents, hoping in this way to improve its problematic demographic situation. But in 2004, she decided to abandon this due to the influx of emigrants from disadvantaged countries who used this opportunity to gain a foothold on the island, then living exclusively on welfare and leading an asocial lifestyle.
