Lena pillars in the local dialect are called Turuuk Hayalara, Mountains of the rebellious gods. Science does not argue with this interpretation: the massif rose due to the elevation of the Siberian platform. It is advised to look at the attraction in different lighting conditions. At sunset, the rocks look mystically ominous, and in the morning they cause pacification.

This place has long been considered sacred. The uninitiated had no right to approach the pillars on pain of heavenly punishment. Access here was open only to elders and shamans. Ancient people idolized the rocks because of their unusual shape. From a distance, the massif strongly resembled petrified human figures.

History of appearance

In 1994, a national park was opened here, and since 2012 the Lena Pillars have been included in the UNESCO list.

The rocks that rose up into the sky appeared about 540 million years ago. They acquired their modern form much later, about 400 million years ago. By the standards of geology, the massif is quite young.

The highest peak rises to 321 m, 200 meters in height (this is a 60-storey building) individual rocks reach. Pillar-shaped mountains stretch for 80 km along the Lena River. The Siberian miracle is closely related to its origin. The rocks, thanks to the river flowing at their foot, seem twice as large, reflected in a natural mirror.

Once the territory of modern Siberia was almost completely covered with water. One part of it was the open sea, the other was a huge salt marsh. They were separated from each other by a reef belt.

As the platform was conceptualized and the reefs grew, the movement of tectonic plates increased. Faults appeared. Wind and water gave the rocks a bizarre shape. Modern travelers see the object in a somewhat modified form (the process of transformation does not stop to this day).

Finds and discoveries

In each layer, the landmark keeps the history of the planet: there are traces of the simplest organisms and mollusks. The skeletons of ancient organisms are found in the chips of ancient reefs.

In the area where the Yakut miracle was found, the remains of a bison, a Lena horse, a mammoth and a woolly rhino were found. There were many finds, so the Lena Pillars were named the Land Monument. The frozen ground perfectly preserved the carcasses, and the hardened clay turned to stone, leaving the structure of animal tissues in excellent condition.

A lot of rare plants were found in the park: 21 species. Falcons, muskrats, wolverines, and egrets live here.

Legends and reality

Tourists often hear the legend and Bigfoot, who walks through the mountains and the coast. He can attack those disagreeable to him, and he helps those who are lost.

On his belt he wears a potion bag made of animal hair and claws. They say that there were cases when he indicated the places where the treasures are hidden.

In the Lena Pillars, scientists have discovered transitional forms of various representatives of the inhabitants of the fauna and flora. Interesting assumptions were made, however, work continues to confirm them.

Keeping many secrets of the past, the rocks do not tolerate noise. Therefore, the study of the area is thoughtful and unhurried.
