In 1927 he moved to Leningrad. Training began with Ivan Belozemtsev, but it had to be interrupted. The young man entered the FZU to help his father raise his younger brother Roman (Raphael). Teachers predicted a career for him as an excellent blacksmith. At one point, the guy played a waltz on a piano that was accidentally left in the club. Then he replaced the musician and started working part-time at the club.

Soon, classes with Belozemtsev resumed. He recommended that the talented student enroll in a music college. Arkady followed the advice in 1930. Sometimes his favorite studies had to be sacrificed for the sake of helping his younger brother. Arkady was engaged in orchestration, played in the evenings in the orchestra. He created a concert brigade together with his bandmates.

The tour began. By chance, on the train, the young musician was lucky enough to meet Rakhlin. In 1940 he offered Ostrovsky a place in the Utesov State Orchestra. By the beginning of the war, Arkady Ilyich decided to start a composer's career. However, the Great Patriotic War prevented the implementation of the plans. He created songs based on the poems given to him. Among them were the works of Sergei Mikhalkov. For the first time he performed the works "Native Side" and "I am a Demobilized" Leonid Utesov. After the war, the wife tried to persuade her husband to leave his work in the orchestra and pursue a solo career. But Arkady Ilyich was in no hurry to leave his comrades. In 1947, Arkady more than once tried to return to the orchestra, where he had been called more than once. However, this decision was not at all welcomed by the spouse.

At first, the novice composer wrote his works to order. However, more and more often, light lyrics were seen in his works. Finally, he became the founder of a new pop direction, a courtyard cycle.

His songs about love sounded, the combination of a guitar with a button accordion turned out to be especially successful. Fame came after meeting and working with Lev Oshanin, a poet. In 1948 their song "Komsomols - Restless Hearts" won the first prize at the competition. In 1954, Klavdiya Shulzhenko performed Ostrovsky's "My Old Park" on the radio. The song immediately became popular.

Notoriety

The composer wrote songs for the World Festivals of Youth and Students. In 1962, together with Lev Oshanin, the famous "Let there always be sunshine" was created. She won first prize at the International Song Festival in Sopot.

The lyric cycle "And in our yard" was written in 1962-19065 in collaboration with Oshanin. 5 songs were included in the cycle. The composer's works were performed by the most famous singers.

Ostrovsky's talent was especially well revealed in children's creativity. And to this day, the musical intro "Tired Toys Sleep" created by him sounds, which has become legendary.
