Despite the fact that more than sixty years have passed since the end of the Great Patriotic War, people continue to search for missing soldiers or at least the graves of these soldiers.

Instructions

Step 1

First of all, collect as much data as possible on the wanted soldier. This can include biographical information, frontline photographs, military awards, letters, orders, and so on.

Step 2

Find out in which troops your missing relative served, and send a request to the appropriate department. The Ministry of Defense (TsAMO - Central Archives of the Ministry of Defense), the Navy (TsVMA - Central Naval Archives of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation), and the NKVD also have archives. Also send a request to the Military Memorial Center of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

Step 3

Look for information about your warrior in the Book of Remembrance. Such books have already been published in eighty-six regions of Russia, and they contain a large database of dead and missing soldiers. Please note, "Books of Memory" are formed at the place of call.

Step 4

Place your wanted ad on one of the many search engines on the Internet. The search box usually consists of several fields. The more fields you fill in, the more likely you are to find the missing soldier. This is where you need the information you have collected about your warrior.

Step 5

There are also many forums on the World Wide Web dedicated to finding soldiers. Do not neglect them either. Please note that it makes sense to go to the forums when you have more or less reliable information: in which unit you fought, the number of the field mail, where the last letter came from, in which area it went missing, where it could presumably be buried, and so on. Who seeks will always find.
