Pereslavl-Zalessky is a small town in the Yaroslavl Region, located about 140 kilometers northeast of Moscow. It was founded by the same prince Yuri Dolgoruky, who began the construction of the future capital of Russia.
Instructions
Step 1
The date of "birth" of Pereslavl-Zalessky is 1152. Located in a picturesque area on the shores of Lake Pleshcheevo, abounding in historical and architectural monuments, the city is part of the Golden Ring of Russia. It is visited annually by hundreds of thousands of tourists, including those from foreign countries.
Step 2
Prince Yuri, nicknamed "Dolgoruky" for his irrepressible desire to expand possessions, tried whenever possible to build fortified cities on the outskirts of the principality, which would serve as forward outposts and bases for further conquests. This is how Pereslavl was founded. Only at first it was called a little differently - Pereyaslavl. The new city got its name in honor of the southern Russian city of Pereyaslavl, founded by one of Dolgoruky's ancestors - Prince Vladimir Svyatoslavich.
Step 3
Since the city erected by Yuri Dolgoruky was located in an area where dense forests were thinning, giving way to arable land, a clarifying definition was often added to its name - "Zalessky", that is, a city located beyond the forests. Gradually, this double name became official. And in the 15th century, for some reason, instead of "Periaslavl" they began to use a shorter form: "Pereslavl".
Step 4
The city is famous for the fact that in 1220 Prince Alexander was born in it, who went down in Russian history with the honorary nickname "Nevsky". Since 1302, the city officially became part of the Moscow principality. In the XIII-XIV centuries. it repeatedly became the arena of fierce internecine struggle, passed from hand to hand. It was besieged, taken by storm, subjecting to severe devastation both the Russian princes and the Mongol-Tatars. And during the Time of Troubles, the city was almost completely destroyed by the Polish-Lithuanian invaders.
Step 5
It was in Pereslavl-Zalessky, on the shores of Lake Pleshcheevo, that the glorious history of the Russian navy began. The young Tsar Peter, who was only 16 years old, began the construction of the so-called "Amusing Flotilla" here. The experience gained helped him a lot later in the construction of real warships of large displacement.
Step 6
Visitors to the city can see 5 monasteries, 9 churches, the Museum-Estate "Boat of Peter I", where the boat "Fortuna", which was part of the "Amusing Flotilla", is demonstrated, and several other interesting museums. And next to the city, there are excavations of the ancient Kleshchino settlement, with preserved ramparts of the 12th century and a huge blue boulder - an object of worship of the pagans.
