Bibliophilia, that is, love of books, has become a very entertaining hobby of people. As you know, the fall in real estate prices and, in general, the instability of the economy has given rise to humanity to reconsider the methods of investment. Selling and collecting old books has become one of the unconventional types. Not everyone will be able to profitably sell antique copies.
Instructions
Step 1
Find out the publication date of the work you want to sell. You should be aware that not all books are quite valuable on the market, since, for example, in Soviet times, books were published in huge quantities, although they cover the period in which potentially expensive collectible editions were published. Today, such specimens are not particularly valuable. An antique book can be called an edition that was produced at the time when printing began before 1850. It is also considered to be an antique thing that is at least 50 years old. All editions released later are considered second-hand books.
Step 2
Try to sell your book online. Choose a suitable specialized site with great care. There are very few real specialists in this area, and it will be difficult to evaluate an old book. In the catalogs of non-specialized auctions, books with scuffs and dilapidated pages are almost invisible against the background of the splendor of all books. Please be aware that an antique item provided may lose half its value if such deficiencies are present.
Step 3
Find out the estimated cost of your book. In order to navigate the prices of such publications, look at the “Catalog of Rare Russian Books”, which became one of the first published printed editions. Although she published prices and copies that have a rather ghostly content, you will have an idea about book antiques.
Step 4
Before you put up a book for sale, look at its history on the net, perhaps a book like yours remained in a single copy. Or it was sold a couple of years ago for an impressive amount. Then, if only you have the book, you can estimate about 10% of the amount for which the same copy was sold.
Step 5
Reconsider your dealer option. If you are unable to sell antiques on your own, contact the antique department. And it is better to several at once in order to choose the highest price that will be offered to you. The only problem is that no one can know all the books because of their variety. Therefore, the price will be set "by eye". The beauty of collecting is that an unknown specimen, for which someone cannot give anything, can make its owner happy.
