Different schools give different definitions to law. But, despite the fact that the question of the concept is debatable, one can safely say one thing: without the right, the life of society would be very different from what we are used to seeing every day.
In order to understand why people need law, it is necessary to define its functions. There are only two of them: to establish norms of behavior (rules), making them mandatory for all members of society, and to ensure that these norms are respected. The regulatory function is carried out by fixing human rights and freedoms in various normative acts, the protective function by establishing prohibitions and implementing punishment for committed offenses.
In most cases, the general concept of law is considered in conjunction with the concept of the state, since it carries out rule-making activity, and it is through the state that the application of compulsory norms of influence to violators of the law is ensured.
Norms of law are usually classified according to their characteristics. The first group includes authorizing norms. They establish what can be done. Binding norms contain prescriptions, that is, they establish what needs to be done. Prohibitive norms, as the name suggests, establish what cannot be done.
Since a person interacts with different systems throughout his life, becomes a participant in various relations, there are various branches of law (civil, criminal, financial, administrative, labor, and so on). Each of them regulates the type of relationship that falls under its norms. And each industry has its own method of legal action.
If there was no criminal justice system, people would not feel safe. A potential criminal is stopped from many offenses against the life and health of an individual, his property, honor and dignity by the impending punishment for the offense. Without civil law, the mechanisms for regulating contractual relations that a person enters into every day (in a store, on public transport, at work) would weaken. The chain can be continued, but whatever sphere of life you take, without the right, chaos would be established.
