Biography
Timur Bekmambetov was born in the city of Atyrau of the Republic of Kazakhstan in 1961 and was brought up in a fairly wealthy family. At the insistence of his father, after school, he went to Moscow to enter the energy institute, but his studies did not work out, and the young man was drafted into the army. Years of service passed in Tashkent, and after demobilization, Bekmambetov decided to enter the local theater institute named after A. Ostrovsky. In the same years, he began working at the Uzbekfilm studio, studying the structure of the film industry.
In 1989, Timur Bekmambetov had a decent experience in the creation of artistic productions, and he got a job in one of the Moscow studios for the creation of commercials. Under his leadership, videos about the banks "Credit-Moscow" and "Imperial" were released, which turned out to be unusual and attracted attention. In 1993, already as a director, Bekmambetov began work on his first film, The Peshawar Waltz. He also often traveled abroad, adopting the experience of foreign colleagues.
Real success came to Timur Bekmambetov in 2004 with the fantastic film "Night Watch", which became a breakthrough for Russian cinema. The box office success and popularity of the film allowed the film to be released internationally. The successful director was invited to Hollywood, where he shot the action-packed film "Wanted", which received the title "Wanted" in the Russian box office. In subsequent years, Bekmambetov directed several more successful films for international distribution, including Apollo 18 and Phantom.
In Russia, the popular director filmed the sequel to the film that gave him fame - "Day Watch". He was also entrusted with directing the filming of the film The Irony of Fate. Continuation”, which in 2007 became the highest-grossing Russian film in history and held this record for a long time. This was followed by other New Year's blockbusters - "Black Lightning" and "Fir Trees". The series of successful films made in the USA continued as well: “President Lincoln:“Vampire Hunter”,“Remove from Friends”,“Ben-Hur”.
Personal life
Timur Bekmambetov was married twice. Almost nothing is known about the first marriage: the director speaks of it as unsuccessful. His daughter Jeanne was born in it. Bekmambetov's second wife, Varvara Avdyushko, became a real muse for him. They met during the next filming, and the young costume designer immediately charmed the eminent creator.
The director has no children in a new marriage yet: he is completely devoted to work and has recently been increasingly engaged in production activities. With his participation, the sequels of the New Year's comedy "Fir Trees" are released, which has actually become an annual tradition. Bekmambetov also sponsors young and promising directors, including Ilya Naishuller, who recently shot a fantastic first-person action movie "Hardcore".
