Instructions

Step 1

When filling out the questionnaire in Russian, write down the name of your country as citizenship. For example, in the application for a visa, the wording “Russia”, “Russian Federation” or even the abbreviation “RF” will be appropriate. An acceptable form can also include the indication of citizenship as a characteristic, for example, "Russian" or "Russian woman".

Step 2

If you have or have previously had another citizenship, indicate it, if required, in the application form. An exception can be considered the situation with people born in the USSR. If they still continue to live in Russia and have local citizenship, additional clarifications are not required. If necessary, explain in the appropriate paragraph of the question why you received or renounced another citizenship. Also, in a number of situations, you will have to clarify the status of your second citizenship on the territory of Russia. According to the laws of the country, a Russian can have dual or two citizenships. The difference is that in the second case, the citizenship of another state is not taken into account in Russia. Dual citizenship, however, is obtained only by people who have moved to a country that has a special agreement with Russia on a similar topic.

Step 3

In the application in a foreign language, write down your citizenship, taking into account local regulations. In the English-language form in the Citizenship section, it would be most appropriate to write Russian Federation. When doing this, keep in mind. that in many European languages no distinction is made between the word "citizenship" and "nationality". For example, this is the case in French, where the word nationalité can mean both. Nevertheless, if we are talking about an official document or a questionnaire, then it is your citizenship that should be indicated. If you are not sure how to correctly fill out the questionnaire in any foreign language, it is best to ask for a paper in Russian or English. This will protect you from misunderstanding the questions posed.
