The first steps in this field Fabrice began to take under the guidance of an experienced mentor, jiu-jitsu coach Marciu Corleta. The results were more than good, by the age of seventeen, Werdum had lifted a purple belt over his head. After such success, Fabrizio himself became a trainer of martial arts and his beloved jiu-jitsu, and for some time he actively worked in this direction in Spain.

Career

Despite coaching, Werdum also continued to enter the ring and even took the title of world champion. After that, he decided to try himself in the style of mixed martial arts. He fought his first fights under the Jungle Fight brand. During the time spent in the ring, the athlete set his own record: in five fights he achieved four victories and suffered one defeat.

In 2005 he started competing in Pride, one of the largest MMA organizations in the world at the time. Werdum's debut fight with Tom Erikson ended in the latter's defeat. After a series of successful performances, Fabrice takes part in the prestigious PRIDE OPEN Weight Gran Prix 2006. In the very first fight, he meets with a very strong and respected rival in the circles of fighters - Alistair Overeem.

The fight was given to Werdum rather hard, but in the end he was able to win. The next opponent in the tournament was the equally titled and famous Antonio Nogueira. Throughout the confrontation, he occupied a dominant position in the ring, knocked down his opponent twice and ultimately won.

Since 2007, Fabrizio Werdum has continued his career in an equally prestigious organization - the UFC. Under their auspices, he played at the UFC 70 tournament, where in his debut duel he met with the Belarusian athlete Andrei Orlovsky. After a hot and relatively equal fight, the referee commission gave the victory to the more experienced and eminent Orlovsky.

The next fight, for which the Brazilian had to prepare, was the fight against Roy Nelson. In February 2012, the fight in which Werdum prevailed took place and entered the list of the best fights.

In October 2014, the Brazilian fighter was to fight for the UFC championship title against a serious opponent Mark Hunt. The battle ended with Werdum's victory.
