The future athlete and coach of the women's national football team was born in Moscow on April 5, 1979. Elena's father was fond of football and even played for the national team of his enterprise. It was he who instilled in his daughter a love of sports. During her school years, Lena actively played football with the boys, becoming a full member of the yard team. In the end, she asked her father to take her to the football section. The father approved the choice of his daughter, but the mother was against it.
The coach of the football section immediately noticed the girl's abilities and urged her parents to send her to a specialized football school. Elena was 10 years old when her father took her to the football club "Rus". Here she acquired her mastery under the strict guidance of coach Mikhail Makarshin.
Football took a lot of time. Often the girl had to do school homework on the subway when she got to school. However, her studies were excellent. Mom tried to instill in Elena a love first for music, then for gymnastics, figure skating and karate. But Fomina's desire to play football turned out to be stronger. For several years Elena played for FC Rus.
Sports career
When Elena finished her studies at school, her mother insisted that her daughter choose some more feminine and less traumatic profession, and not sports. But the future star was already noticed and offered her a place in the women's national football team.
Fomina successfully combined trainings and numerous tournaments with her studies at the capital's Academy of Physical Culture.
In 1999, the girl first appeared at the World Championships, which took place in America. The Russian team then took fifth place. After that, the country started talking at the top of their voice about women's football. At the next world championship, held four years later, Elena was already the team captain. She managed to score several significant goals in the championship. In general, as part of the national team, Fomina played more than a hundred matches.
Coaching work
At some point, Elena developed health problems. And the doctors strongly recommended that she switch to coaching. She started as the second coach of FC Rossiyanka.
