World renowned filmmaker Roman Polanski, who became famous for the film "The Pianist", directed an astonishing and terrifying trilogy of "horror films" early in his career. But are they real horror movies?

Fear can be portrayed in different ways. You can shoot cheap stamped horrors, the maximum of which will frighten the viewer for a second. And you can play with details and madness, confuse the viewer. As the infamous director Roman Polanski did.

The director's conventional trilogy: "Disgust". Rosemary's Baby. "Resident"

After watching these films, I think those who read Franz Kafka will catch a familiar leitmotif and a shade of madness. The director shoots in such a way that the viewer himself begins to think about the possibility of what is happening. Is it really the birth of the child of the Antichrist or the heroine "went kukukh".

"Disgust" with the main character Catherine Deneuve tells the story of two sisters living in a rented apartment. At a certain moment, the sister has a boyfriend.

The heroine Deneuve has an extreme disgust for men, moreover, she is very attached to her sister. When the latter leaves with her man for a couple of weeks, all her inner demons are revealed to the main character. These are both suppressed desires and echoes of real schizophrenia.

At the end of the film, we are shown a photo of a young heroine who looks at men with hatred. Many film critics see this as an allusion to the violence that happened to her as a child.

"Rosemary's Baby"

Rosemary and Guy Woodhouse move to Bremford, New York. Very soon they get acquainted with eccentric neighbors, Minnie and Roman Kastevet, who now and then impose on them as friends. One day, Ro dreamed of how Guy turned into a demon and raped her. After that, she finds out that she is pregnant. Some devilry begins to happen in their lives, and Ro thinks that their neighbors are members of a satanic cult. At the end of the film, Ro gave birth to the Antichrist's child.

But is it?

Ro's image is very agreeable, she agrees with everyone and will not reread anyone. She sincerely believes in God and hopes for his protection. But the character of the heroine, the new environment, hormones, and the fact that her husband is not support and support for her. All this leads to a terrible madness and the loss of a child.

"Resident"

At the beginning of the film, the main character Trelkovsky seems to be a correct, downtrodden and good person. In the beginning, the film is like a black comedy starring the director himself.

But from the second half the film turns almost into a horror movie. The loss of self-identification of the protagonist and the fear of neighbors nurtured another conspiracy theory in his fevered mind.

If in "Disgust" Carol - the main character asks her sister not to leave her, then in "Lodger" the hero asks his girlfriend to stay at home. He feels madness and is scared, it seems to him that he cannot cope alone.

Polanski's paintings are about loneliness and indifference.

Carol has no one except her sister, but her sister is close to her only by blood. Ro has a husband who lacks the time and energy for a wife. In principle, Trelkovsky has no one.

Even a small change in a person's psyche can drive him to desperate madness.
