The reduction in military service to one year has become one of the main innovations in the legislation of the Russian Federation. The merit of this was the desire of young people of military age to join the army and no longer be afraid of bullying.
According to an extract from the Federal Law, alternative civilian service is a type of labor activity, which is carried out instead of conscription military service in the interests of the state and society. This means that instead of sitting in the trenches, wearing a military uniform, the conscript goes to work. Spetsstroy of Russia, Russian Post, hospitals, orphanages, boarding schools, nursing homes and other social institutions act as employers for "alternative workers". To get into the alternative service, six months before the call-up, you must submit an application indicating the desired position and professional skills. There are two groups of people who can do this service: representatives of indigenous peoples with a small number of people who carry out traditional crafts, and people whose religion or beliefs are contrary to military service. During the conscription, the commission considers applications from employers and potential "alternatives" and decides where to send the conscript. If the employer cannot provide a person with a place to live, he is allowed to perform service near the house. After the recruit is sent to the place of service, an employment contract is concluded between him and the employer. Then relations begin to be regulated by the ACS Law, the Labor Code of the Russian Federation and other legal documents. The fact that alternative service takes place at defense enterprises is nothing more than a myth. Of course, military institutions appear among employers, but the very name "alternative" indicates that this service is not associated with the army. The term of alternative service is longer than the military one. Today it is 21 months old. A significant drawback of the "alternative" is the salary, which is equal to the subsistence minimum. But this disadvantage is smoothed out by the possibility of career growth and combining work with study.
