"Traditional rite", "traditional costume", "traditional food" - how often we hear these expressions in relation to the inhabitants of distant exotic countries, but at the same time we are not always well acquainted with their own national characteristics. But every nation has customs and rituals, even if in everyday life we forget about them or easily discard them. So what are traditions and why are these remnants of antiquity needed in today's dynamic world?
Instructions
Step 1
The word "tradition" comes from the Latin "traditio" - to hand over, to convey. First of all, this is a huge experience that one generation passes on to another, and then to the next, and so on, while the Earth turns … If you break this chain, humanity will have to start all over again. If the skills and abilities did not pass from fathers to children, people would reinvent the wheel every century, and business would never come to a bicycle. Humanity has come a long way from the first extracted fire to soaring spaceships in space only thanks to the preservation of traditions
Step 2
In addition to everyday skills, achievements of science and art, traditions are strongly associated with the spiritual basis of society. The totality of moral norms forms culture, culture, in turn, forms the basis of civilization. If we are talking about a low-developed society, where the traditions of cannibalism or stoning are still alive, we can hardly call it civilized. This is the flip side of the coin: the legacy of past generations can be both a benefit and a threat to humanism, if combined with blind faith and narrow-mindedness
Step 3
Traditions are strengthened most strongly on religious grounds, often mixing and layering on top of each other. Around birth, weddings and funerals, there are always a myriad of customs and rituals grouped together. If the people have gone from paganism to Christianity, then, most likely, they keep a whole mix of traditions from different eras and times. This is the story of the Russian people, which also received Soviet atheism as a reward, followed by an attempt to return to the cultural foundations of Russian society. A modern wedding ceremony can include both the ancient Slavic ritual of redemption of the bride, and the subsequent wedding in the Orthodox Church, and painting in the registry office "in the Soviet style." Unfortunately, the bride and groom are not always aware and can say for sure where this or that custom originates
Step 4
In order not to become "Ivans who do not remember kinship", interest in national traditions should be supported and encouraged from an early age. Of course, we will never walk around the house in a kosovorotka and a sarafan and eat with the whole family from the same pot, but if our children see national costumes only in museums under glass, and try national food only in ethnographic restaurants, the Russian people will sooner or late will lose his face. Nowadays, interest in everything ethnic, including national music, dances and crafts, has increased. Many, tired of the pressure of globalization, are looking for opportunities to get in touch with living history. A huge number of interactive museums open, open air festivals, concerts and fairs are held. Learning the cultural traditions of your people is worthy and exciting! Plunge into the world of the past and you will never regret it.
