Igor Dyatlov dreamed of contributing to science, the young man had excellent data for this. He could have made a career in physics or the creativity of an inventor. The young man was kind and open, along with this he possessed indisputable authority. His short biography became the subject of study after a group of students, led by Igor, died in the mountains.
early years
Igor's childhood was spent in the industrial town of Pervouralsk, where he was born in 1936. He grew up in the company of an older brother and two younger sisters. The head of the family made a career at a chemical plant as an engineer, my mother worked as a cashier at a club.
Igor grew up as a hardworking and inquisitive boy, actively participated in school life. In 1954, he received a silver medal along with a high school diploma. The young man decided to continue his studies within the walls of the Ural Polytechnic Institute. Dyatlov decided on the choice of his future specialty and big career plans even in his teens: he made radios, sound recorders, participated in the radio system of the school. He continued to demonstrate his inventions at the university. The most unusual was the radio, which connected the student with relatives at a distance of 43 kilometers.
Passion for tourism
The first time Igor went on a hike with his older brother, when he was in the 7th grade. The journey impressed him so much that tourism became his second great passion after radio engineering. After completing the 2nd year, he became a member of the regional tourist team and took part in hikes of the highest degree of difficulty. Classmates noted his ability to solve the most difficult situations, his willingness to help at any time. However, as the leader of the group, he became a tough commander, not everyone liked it. Igor listened to criticism and tried to change.
Famous hike
In 1957, the young man was appointed to lead the tourist group of the institute. The team consisted of guys and girls with excellent physical fitness and personal qualities. In the extreme conditions of the campaign, any trifle could cost life. Dyatlov prepared his charges for a difficult winter campaign, which they planned to devote in 1959 to the XXI Party Congress. Students had to overcome 300 kilometers along the northern edge of the Sverdlovsk region, and then climb the peaks Otorten and Oyka-Chakur. The hike received the third highest category of difficulty. The group included students and graduates of UPI. Together with Igor, Zina Kolmogorova got into the group. In Dyatlov's personal life, a classmate played an important role.
On January 23, the group left for Serov, then by train crossed to Ivdel. From there the path lay in the village of Vizhay and further to the village of the 2nd Northern mine - the beginning of the route. Here the team was left by one of the participants, Yuri Yudin, who had a pain in his leg and could not continue his journey. Further, the chronology could only be traced from the group's diary entries. On January 31, the group stopped at the foot of Mount Kholatchakhl, which in translation from the language of the indigenous population of Mansi means “mountain of the dead”. After spending the night the next day, they climbed the mountain and set up camp.
The return of the group to Vizhai was planned for February 12, three days later - in Sverdlovsk. When the guys did not get in touch on the agreed date, the search for the group began, which lasted several months. Soon, the search engines found snow-covered tents with things, but they did not find tourists nearby. Their bodies, wearing only their underwear, were found in the following days and in May, when the snow melted. Igor Dyatlov and members of his group were buried in Sverdlovsk.
Investigation and conclusions
The investigation established that the cause of death was freezing and injuries incompatible with life. The reason for this could be the element, with the force of which the tourists could not cope. Despite the official conclusions, today there are 75 different versions of what happened. The most popular are considered crime, the test of secret weapons and even the UFO invasion.
The history of the campaign for many decades remains a mystery, the details of the death of young people are covered in mystery. The directors dedicated several documentary and feature films to the event.
