Any country that has access to the sea must have not only a land army, but also a navy to protect its borders and national interests. A strong modern fleet is an indicator of the level of development, capabilities and importance of the state. Such a country is considered by other states. And who has the strongest fleet now?
The undisputed leader in the strength of the navy - the United States
Currently, the United States of America has the most powerful fleet. During the Cold War, the Soviet navy was close to the American one in strength (and even outstripped it in some classes of warships). And after the collapse of the USSR and the long years of subsequent economic difficulties, the fleet of Russia, the successor to the Soviet Union, became much weaker than the American one.
The US fleet includes about 600 warships. The main striking force is 10 aircraft carriers with a nuclear power plant, many dozens of missile cruisers, destroyers and frigates, as well as nuclear submarines of the Ohio, Los Angeles, Seawulf, Virginia types, some of which are armed with intercontinental ballistic and cruise missiles.
The Gerald R. Ford nuclear-powered aircraft carrier is currently in the final stages of construction. The construction of at least one more of the same ship is planned.
Not a single state in the world currently has a navy that can equal the strength of the US fleet. For example, Great Britain, which not long ago bore the proud unofficial nickname "Mistress of the Sea", now has only one aircraft carrier, Invincible, to be decommissioned this year, several submarines, frigates and destroyers (not counting minesweepers and patrol boats). Compared to the once gigantic Royal Navy, the royal fleet that plowed all seas and oceans, these are very insignificant forces.
What kind of fleet does Russia have
The Russian naval forces include 4 fleets (Baltic, Black Sea, Northern and Pacific), as well as the Caspian flotilla. The most powerful surface ships are the Admiral Kuznetsov heavy aircraft-carrying cruiser (TAVKR), which can carry an air group of 50 aircraft and helicopters, and the Peter the Great nuclear-powered heavy missile cruiser.
Attack cruise missiles, which are armed with "Peter the Great", are capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 550 kilometers.
The Russian navy includes missile cruisers, large and small anti-submarine ships, numerous nuclear-powered submarines, armed with both ballistic intercontinental missiles and cruise missiles, and carrying torpedo weapons.
Thus, the Russian fleet, although significantly inferior to the American one, is a formidable force.
