Pre-conscript and conscript

A young man who has reached the age of 16, according to Russian law, is obliged to register for primary military registration. He undergoes a medical examination, military registration documents are drawn up for him. But it is too early for him to join the army. He is considered a pre-conscript. Absolutely all young men are registered for primary military registration. Evasion of registration is an administrative offense and is punishable by a fine.

The issue of fitness for military service is decided when the young man turns 18 years old. He receives a summons from the military commissariat. Now he is considered a conscript, again undergoes a medical examination, according to the results of which it is decided whether he is fit for military service for health reasons or not. In addition, the military registration and enlistment office conducts a professional selection and determines in which troops a young man can serve.

The military registration specialty is also determined for those who are not fit for active military service. For example, a conscript may be fit for non-combatant service, for non-combatant service in wartime, etc. The issue of conscription is decided by the draft board. The conscript in any case becomes liable for military service, except in cases where the young man is generally not fit for military service.

Who are those liable for military service?

Even if a young man is not drafted into the army at the moment, he becomes liable for military service. That is, if necessary, he is obliged to appear at the military registration and enlistment office and join the army in the military specialty that was assigned to him when he was registered. Those who have already served in the army as a conscript soldier are also considered liable for military service. Among those liable for military service there are people who have not served in the army, but have undergone military training, for example, in a higher educational institution and received an officer's rank, as well as officers who have retired. Men who do not have an officer rank remain liable for military service from the moment of registration until the age of 50. The age limit for officers depends on the rank.

Conscription for women

There are purely female specialties, which the army cannot do without. To get these specialties, you need special training. It is received in a specialized higher or secondary specialized educational institution. Sometimes non-core universities also provide military female professions. All doctors and nurses, as well as translators and representatives of some other professions, are considered liable for military service. The age limits for military service for women are from 19 to 45 years.
