People usually want to get rid of old books before moving, after renovation, buying new furniture, and just when they take up free space. Sometimes it’s a pity to just throw out old books and want them to fall into safe hands.

Step 1
If the books are very old, they can be returned to a waste paper collection point. After all, books are wasted paper, felled trees, so it's good when they can be recycled and used again. Such waste paper can simply be accepted for processing, or even pay little money for it. It makes sense to get rid of old books in this way when it is no longer possible to read them, the books have lost their shape, faded or completely lost their meaning in modern society.
Step 2
Check in books to the library. This is the most acceptable and popular way to get rid of old books. True, before going to the library, you need to call there and ask what kind of literature they accept. The fact is that even libraries cannot accommodate the entire number of various books, therefore they have to make restrictions. You will be happy to accept the most popular genres of books: detective stories, classics, science fiction and fantasy. City libraries are also happy to accept educational literature, if it is not about old school textbooks - you can try to hand them over from the school library.
Step 3
Books for the library should be in good condition, it is best to glue them yourself if they need it. Bring interesting books to the library that you would like to read yourself, not the politicized literature of yesteryear.
Step 4
You can donate books to your friends or donate them to charities such as an orphanage or nursing home. Usually they do not refuse such offerings, but the same rule applies here as for libraries: books for charity should look decent and should not be too old.
Step 5
Participate in bookcrossing promotions. This is a book exchange in which any resident of the city can take part. You just need to find places for such an exchange of books, bring your own there and you can choose someone else's book. However, you only need to bring interesting books that were published relatively recently. Bookcrossing is not a place to exchange junk.
Step 6
If you want to donate books for free, write an ad on message boards and used websites or social media about which books you have. Surely there will be people willing to pick them up. In addition, they themselves will take these books and you will not have to go anywhere and carry heavy editions.
Step 7
On the same message boards and social networks, you can advertise the sale of old books. This is especially true for those who have valuable rare books. If you know an antiques or second-hand book store in town, you can negotiate a sale there as well.
