A generous person is certainly a good person. But do we always know exactly what exactly this word means? Is generosity just kindness towards others, or is it something more, a collection of qualities that not everyone is capable of possessing? And what do you need to do to learn to show generosity in everyday life?

What is generosity

In art, an allegory of generosity has traditionally been the ruler, who overshadows his subjects with a laurel wreath. The figure sat on a throne, was wrapped in a regal cloak and possessed the symbols of power generally accepted at that time: a scepter or a sword. Thus, initially, the trait of generosity was attributed to people of nobility and endowed with money and power, since it was they who were able to manifest this quality in relation to the poor and disadvantaged.

Today, of course, the meaning of generosity is much broader. Not only a ruler or a boss can be magnanimous, showing this quality in relation to his subordinates or people who in one way or another depend on him. No doubt, generosity can be shown by any person, regardless of his age, gender and level of income. How can you distinguish a generous act from simple kindness? Kindness is inherent in man towards all people. If someone does good, there are no boundaries for his actions. As for generosity, it manifests itself as a kind deed towards those who do not fully deserve such behavior. This does not mean at all that a kind person cannot be generous, just this quality is much more complicated than simple kindness and requires much more courage and willpower.

A generous ruler pardons his enemies by giving them life. As one of the Christian virtues, this quality gives a person even more power than simple strength and courage. After sparing his enemy, forgiving the offender and pardoning the guilty, a generous person shows his strength of mind, his ability to overcome resentments and conventions and refuse revenge for the good of others and love for his neighbor. Not everyone is able to consciously commit such an act, and therefore it is generosity that has long been considered one of the highest qualities inherent in a person.

Of course, it is not easy to show generosity towards someone who does not deserve it, but if you feel the strength to follow the path of virtue and true convictions of goodness and humanity, it is simply necessary to learn generosity. Start doing good deeds, learn to forgive and not hold evil or resentment. Be generous to yourself first of all, and this will teach you to show this quality in relation to others.
