Susan Atkins is notorious for her criminal record. For committing heinous crimes, she was arrested and sentenced to death, which was later commuted to life imprisonment.
Biography
Susan was born in 1948 in San Gabriel, California. The family was large and dysfunctional, the parents abused alcohol and did not take good care of the children.
At school, Susan was a quiet and self-absorbed child, she sang in the choir club, and after class - in the choir of the local church.
In 1963, the girl's mother died of cancer. The father did not have a permanent job, and he traveled with his children throughout the country in search of work.
As a result, Edward Atkins came with his family to Los Banos, California. He got a job on the construction of the San Luis Dam, and left the children to themselves. Susan soon found work to support herself and her brother. From time to time, distant relatives took care of the children.
The father often drank and fell out with children, so as an adult, the girl dropped out of school and left for San Francisco in search of a better life. She has worked in various industries, was an office clerk, secretary and even tried to make a career as a dancer - stripper.
During this period, the founder of the Church of Satan, Anton Sandor LaVey, met her, and it was with him that Susan danced in a show called Witches' Saturday.
The girl's first problems with the law arose in 1966. She was arrested for illegal possession of weapons, as well as for buying stolen goods and robbery. Three months later, she was released on probation.
Manson family
In 1967, Susan met musician Charles Manson. This happened in the house where Atkins lived with her friends. A couple of weeks later, a police raid visited their home and Susan ended up on the street.
Manson invited the girl to his group, which he gathered for a summer trip. Atkins agreed and received the pseudonym Sadie Mae Glatz for creativity.
Gradually the company grew and became the "Manson family". They are staying at a ranch in San Fernando, Southern California. Here, on October 7, 1968, Atkins gave birth to a son, whom Manson named Zezozous Zadfrak Glatz. After being arrested, Susan was deprived of parental rights, and the boy was given a new name and given to a new family for adoption.
The "family" had very free morals, violence and crime were welcomed.
Crimes
When members of the "family" were arrested, Susan Atkins confessed to involvement in eight murders.
The most terrible crime in which Atkins took part is the murder of Sharon Tate and the La Bianca couple.
On August 8, 1969, Manson dispatched several members of the group, along with Charles Watson, to commit murder and robbery. They broke into the house of the famous director Roman Polanski and found his pregnant wife with friends there.
Atkins and accomplices brutally dealt with people, and above the front door Susan wrote the word "PIG" in the blood of the murdered Sharon.
But Manson was dissatisfied with the actions of the "family", calling them rude and sloppy, and decided to arrange his own master class on murder.
The victims of the maniac and his subordinates were the owner of the grocery store Leno LaBianca and his wife Rosemary. These were not the last victims at the hands of the gang. Manson and his "family members" committed nine murders in California in the summer of 1969.
