Tipping is money voluntarily given to service personnel. There are no laws mandating tipping, but there is such a tradition. And if most people leave tips to waiters in cafes and restaurants, then the situation with couriers is not so clear-cut.
Tipping is a significant part of income
You need to understand that sometimes tip can make up a large part of monthly earnings, that is, the income of a particular person in the service sector may largely depend on voluntary awards. That is why hairdressers, bartenders, waiters, taxi drivers and couriers treat such monetary gratitude extremely positively.
You can think of a tip as a travel expense. After all, if you went to the store on your own, you would spend money on travel or gasoline. The courier saves you both time and money, and sometimes even hassle.
Why tip the courier?
In Russia, there is no strictly regulated amount that is customary to leave for tea. Usually it depends on the capabilities and desires of the client, so if you liked the speed of service and the quality of work, it is perfectly normal to thank the employee in this way. The work of a courier does not seem difficult - you need to receive the goods, deliver it to the buyer, get the money and leave. However, the reality is not that simple. Couriers can get stuck in traffic jams, break through the defense of vigilant concierges at the entrances, deliver the order within the specified time frame, risking customer displeasure, and drag bulky goods. Such work, if done impeccably, deserves a small reward.
Many people do not reward the courier in this way, because they do not know how much tip is considered normal. According to the established tradition, the remuneration can be approximately ten percent of the order amount. If you have no complaints about the delivery at all, everything is done perfectly, the tip amount can be increased up to twenty percent. If express delivery was ordered, the goods were received on time, and on the street, for example, bad weather, the amount can be slightly increased, this is considered good form.
Always check the item carefully before signing for no claim. This will save you from many difficulties. If you check the item for a long time, you should tip the courier for additional waiting.
If the work of the courier did not arouse any special emotions in you, everything went well, and you are not constrained in funds, leave him at least a small tip, the courier will appreciate such a gesture, and your wallet will not become too scarce. Of course, if the courier did everything wrong and at the wrong time, you can not leave a tip with a calm heart. Summarizing the above, it is worth noting that tips in Russia are not mandatory, but exclusively voluntary. Keep in mind, however, that tipping is a sign of good form.
