Family, early years
Galina Borisovna was born on December 19, 1933. Her hometown is Moscow. Galina's father is a director, cameraman, mother was a screenwriter.
The girl loved to read, her father wanted her to study at the Literary Institute. However, Galina followed in the footsteps of her parents, entering the Studio School at the Moscow Art Theater. She finished her studies in 1955.
Creative biography
Galina Borisovna together with other graduates of the Studio School (Oleg Efremov, Oleg Tabakov, Evstigneev Evgeny) became the organizers of the Studio of Young Actors, which later turned into the Sovremennik Theater. Until 1962 Volchek played in plays, then she became a director.
In 1972, Volchek took the position of chief director, since 1989 she has been the artistic director. Galina Borisovna's last appearance on the stage as an actress took place in 1984, she played in the play Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf.
Volchek perfectly coped with the duties of a director. The plays "Two on a Swing", "An Ordinary Story", "Three Comrades" received great success. For this work, Galina Borisovna received the State Prize.
She became the first director to stage plays based on Russian classics in American theaters. These tours were marked with the prestigious US award - the Drama Desk Award. In total, Galina Borisovna has staged more than 30 performances. Volchek was engaged in theatrical pedagogy, but mainly she conducted classes abroad.
Galina Borisovna also worked in cinematography, making her debut in the movie Don Quixote (1957). She played in the films "King Lear", "A bridge is being built", "Sinful angel". The actress also had roles in the fairy tales "The Little Mermaid", "About Little Red Riding Hood", in the films "Tevye the Milkman", "Unicum", "Autumn Marathon". She managed to make all the characters bright.
Since 1996, Volchek began to appear in documentaries. In the 2000s, she starred in films dedicated to colleagues.
Galina Borisovna also tried herself as a filmmaker. First, she filmed theatrical performances, and then shot several psychological dramas. In 2015 Volchek appeared in the movie "Mysterious Passion".
For several years Galina Borisovna worked as a member of the Committee for Culture. In 2017, she was awarded the title of Hero of Labor.

Galina Borisovna's first husband is Evstigneev Evgeny, a famous actor. The marriage lasted 9 years, they had a boy Denis. On the initiative of Volchek, the couple separated.
She later married Abel Mark. He is a scientist, doctor of sciences, taught at a civil engineering university. But the relationship did not last long.
Then Galina Borisovna had a civil marriage that lasted 10 years. She does not like to remember this man.
