Anna Gavalda is a French writer who, in a fairly short time, managed to charm readers and touch the most secret strings of their hearts. Literary critics unanimously call her "the new Françoise Sagan."
Biography
Anna was born in December 1970. Her great-grandmother was from St. Petersburg, but left for France in her youth. The girl grew up very cheerful and sociable. At school, Anna was an inveterate dreamer, she loved to write essays. Practically every work of hers was read aloud by the teacher. The divorce of the parents became a turning point in the girl's life. At the age of 14, she was sent to study at a boarding school.
Student years were spent at the Sorbonne. In the evenings, Anna worked as a part-time journalist and waitress at a local cafe. She spent the money she earned not on entertainment, but on food and housing. At that time, the girl did not even suspect that the experience gained would be useful to her in life.
In 1992, Gavalda won a literary competition hosted by a major radio station. Anna wrote the letter on behalf of the man. It was this fact that excited the jury. They were very surprised at how the young girl understands male psychology.
Anna could not finish her studies, so she got a job as a teacher in a college. She taught French to first graders. In her spare time, the girl continued to invent stories. When enough of them had accumulated, Gavalda knew it was time to reveal them to the world. This is how the debut book turned out.
In 1998 Anna Gavalda won the prestigious Blood in the Inkwell competition. The work "Aristote" brought her good luck.
In 1999, the book "I would like to …" was published. She quickly won the recognition of readers, and critics were supportive. France was overwhelmed by the talent of the young writer. It was she who was able to revive the public's interest in short stories. For several years, the book has been translated into 30 languages.
In 2002, his debut novel I Loved Him was released. In the very first days of sales, readers swept all copies of the circulation from the shelves. It was a real success. Five years later, the film "Just Together" was filmed. Audrey Tautou played the main role in the film. At the moment Anna Gavalda continues to write stories and works for the Elle magazine.
Personal life
Anna Gavalda is divorced. In the 90s she got married, but the marriage turned out to be fragile. The couple broke up just a couple of years later. In memory of her married life, she left two children: daughter Felicite and son Louis. The writer does not like to think about her unsuccessful marriage. She then had a very difficult time, both materially and morally. Anna herself says that if it were not for those difficulties, she would not have achieved such success in life.
Now Anna Gavalda lives in a country house and brings up children. The daughter dreams of becoming "the second Coco Chanel", and the son devotes his free time to botany.
