The future People's Artist of the Soviet Union was born on September 25, 1920 in a peasant family. At that time, the parents lived in a small village on the territory of the Kherson province. His father, who had served in the Navy for seven years, was in charge of the collective farm. Mother worked as a field grower on the same collective farm.

A few years later, the head of the family was transferred to a responsible position in the regional center of Taganrog. And in 1932 the Bondarchuks moved to the city of Yeisk. Here his father ran a tannery, and Sergei studied in high school. Beginning in the seventh grade, he began to regularly attend theater classes. It is interesting to note that relatives did not particularly approve of the boy's choice. They wanted Serezha to learn to be an engineer, but in the end they agreed not to hinder him in realizing his chosen dream.

Creative career

After graduating from school, Bondarchuk became a student at a theater school in Rostov-on-Don. The war prevented him from completing his education. In 1942, Sergei was drafted into the ranks of the Red Army. Only after the Victory, returning to a peaceful life, he continued his studies at the famous VGIK on the course of the famous director Sergei Gerasimov. Having received a diploma of a professional actor, Bondarchuk entered the service at the Moscow Theater of Film Actor. Just a few weeks later, Sergei Fedorovich was invited to shoot the legendary film "Young Guard".

The next stage was the film "Taras Shevchenko", in which the actor performed the title role. Then the picture "Othello" came out on the screens. And in 1959, Bondarchuk directed the film "The Fate of a Man", in which he played the main role. Spectators not only in the Soviet Union, but also abroad accepted this work of the young director with enthusiasm. But the film epic "War and Peace" based on the novel by Lev Nikolaevich Tolstoy brought Bondarchuk truly worldwide fame.

Recognition and privacy

The party and the government appreciated the contribution of Sergei Fedorovich Bondarchuk to the development of national culture and art. He was awarded the honorary titles People's Artist of the USSR and Hero of Socialist Labor. For the film "War and Peace" Bondarchuk was awarded the prestigious international Oscar prize.

The actor's personal life did not work out the first time. He was married three times. In her third marriage to actress Irina Skobtseva.
