There are many mysterious and inexplicable things in Russia. And it is unlikely that there are such wonders abroad that we would not find analogues. These are the pyramids of the Kola Peninsula, Primorye, Crimea, and the snowmen, which were seen in the Caucasus and Altai. And in the Yakut lake Labynkyr, it turns out, lives a "relative" of the famous Loch Ness monster.

The climate of Yakutia is far away. The most severe place was and remains Oymyakon, the pole of cold. Here is the Labynkyr lake. People do not come to its shores: it is best to get to the nearest village through the forest-tundra on an all-terrain vehicle. But a few local residents are sure that a very mysterious animal lives in the reservoir. They call him the Labynkyr devil.

In search of Russian Nessie

In the description of the strange inhabitant of the lake, eyewitnesses are unanimous: a dark gray monster with a huge head. However, if Nessie does not cause fears among people, then his Russian counterpart is distinguished by aggressiveness.

In the 50s, on the shore, Peter Vinogradov discovered the jaw of a giant animal. However, in the nineties, an amazing artifact inexplicably disappeared. Scientists arrived at the lake. On July 30, 1953, the geologist Bashkatov, who led the expedition, described a giant animal that jerked up from the water and rushed forward to plunge again. This was the same Labyrkyr devil.

About the Yakut monster in 1960 told the readers the magazine "Around the world". Expeditions made frequent visits to the lake, but none of them had a chance to see its inhabitant. For many years, science forgot about the monster and the reservoir that sheltered it.

And in 1999 the expedition of the "Cosmopoisk" association set out to investigate the inexplicable phenomenon. The purpose of the campaign was documentary confirmation or refutation of the local legend. The choice of the time of departure, October-November, was explained by the desire of the monster to go upstairs so as not to suffocate under the ice. At these moments, they planned to photograph the monster.

Anomaly and monster

In the village of Tomkor, I managed to talk to a local resident, who confirmed the existence of the disappeared artifact and told a lot about Labyrkyr, which was reputed to be a sacred lake. According to legend, even stones taken from the shore brought misfortune to the house. Everything was getting better only after they were returned to their place.

When the researchers, impressed by such stories, reached the destination of the route, they saw that the lake did not freeze even at minus 50. It seemed that the laws of physics were not a rule in the anomalous zone.

It was decided to probe the reservoir with an echo sounder. At a depth, mines were found connecting Labynkyr with neighboring water bodies. The Yakut devil could well have settled in such underwater-underground apartments. Only to find out whether he lived there was not possible: it remained a mystery.

And yet he is?

The spoon left for the guard on the bank of the husky disappeared suddenly. There were no traces left, even the snow around remained clear. The only version explaining the disappearance was the abduction of the dog by the devil.

The ice stalagmites found on the shore suggested an animal crawling out, and the water flowing down from its sides froze. The trail left was one and a half meters wide. They waited for a new visit from the monster for two weeks, but to no avail.

For a decade and a half, new explorers have visited the lake. The reservoir was scanned completely. At depth, echo sounders constantly recorded the movement of huge objects. However, very indistinct photographs taken by enthusiasts, allegedly capturing the very inhabitant of the depths, were recognized as fakes.

In 2013, the TV probe helped to find a 10-meter skeleton at the bottom, confirming the existence of the Labyrkyr feature with this finding.
