Vasily Vyacheslavovich Utkin is one of the most famous football commentators in Russia. Its popularity peaked in the 2000s. Unlike most of his colleagues, he never chooses words and says what he thinks. Because of this, he constantly finds himself in the center of high-profile scandals.
Biography
The future commentator of football battles was born in Balashikha, on March 6, 1972, in an intelligent family. His mother worked as a doctor, and his father was a scientist. Vasily was distinguished from most of the boys by his indifference to football and a craving for reading, he adored literature and foreign languages. Nevertheless, he did not work out with his studies, in particular, he had big problems with physics, only thanks to his father he was content with triplets.
After school, he decided to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather, who worked as a teacher all his life. Vasily entered the Moscow Pedagogical University and had plans to become a teacher. Having spent 4 years worthily at the university, Utkin suddenly decided to quit his studies. Vasily himself still does not know why he did this then.
Career
Thanks to his knowledge of foreign languages, well-read and well-defined diction, Vasily had every chance of getting a job on television. And so it happened - in 1992, Alexander Politkovsky, the creator of the Politburo TV show, drew attention to the talented guy, he invited Vasily Utkin to work as an editor for the program. Despite the fact that Politkovsky put together a team of real specialists, the project lasted only a couple of years and was closed.
The next step in the career of Vasily Utkin was a popular NTV program with a good rating - "Football Club". As the host of the program, Vasily attacked the invited guests with devastating criticism, questioning their professional and sports data. As a result, most of the coaches and footballers of that time simply stopped coming to the program. A sharp decline in interest in the project led to the fact that it was closed. The program was re-launched only in 2000.
In 2001, a football commentator almost died, an unknown attacked him from behind and stabbed him twice, but fortunately, the injuries were not serious.
In the mid-2000s, Vasily tried himself in other projects and was the host of "Hunger" and the entertainment show "Wall to Wall", while remaining the host of the Football Club. During his long career in television, he also starred in several films, the most famous of which is "Election Day".
Drastic changes in the professional life of Vasily Utkin took place in 2015. Then a new media project "Match-TV" was created. The NTV + channels, which were directed by Vasily, were transferred to the disposal of Tina Kandelaki, Utkin reacted extremely negatively to such changes and was deprived of the opportunity to continue working on the channel. In his opinion, working under the supervision of a person who does not understand anything in sports is a real betrayal in relation to the profession of a sports journalist.
In 2018, before the start of the World Cup, which was held in Russia, Vasily was invited to comment on the matches on Channel One. However, after several broadcasts, Vasily Utkin, without commenting on his decision, stopped working. After leaving TV, he started his own YouTube channel, which, against the background of the strange departure of the famous commentator from the first channel, quickly gained popularity and overgrown with subscribers.
Personal life
Vasily does not like to talk about his personal life too much, believing that no one can cross the line between public and private. Utkin himself calls himself not a very happy person. In the late 90s he was married, but divorced without creating a strong family. He has no children, but he has health problems, and several times the commentator consulted a doctor about depression.
