Step 1
One of the most important steps is creating a business plan. The success or failure of all your further actions depends on how accurately and in detail it will be worked out. First, formulate the purpose of creating a radio station - your personal, i.e. what this act will mean for you, and external - how you want to influence the surrounding reality, what result you want to achieve.
Step 2
Then write down the tasks (smaller and more specific) that will lead to the achievement of the designated external goal.
Step 3
Conduct research on the market segment you intend to enter with your project. Determine who will be the main competitors, find out their main advantages and disadvantages. Outline a strategy: how you plan to outperform the competition. Find out what problems exist in the industry as a whole - can you deal with them (how exactly?) Or will they become an insurmountable obstacle?
Step 4
Calculate the potential audience for the radio station you want to launch. To do this, look for studies on the preferences of specific age and social groups. Find out what the size of this audience is in the territory where the radio will broadcast. And then conduct surveys and questionnaires of these people (it is better to involve specialists - sociologists and marketers in the compilation of questionnaires) in order to find out what to focus on when forming the format of the radio station.
Step 5
Formulate the main direction of your radio station, its format and complete image in two versions: for consumers (listeners) and advertisers.
Step 6
Design the structure of the station. Describe what content blocks will be on the air, as well as in more detail - the subjects of the programs, genres, tonality, the image of the presenter.
Step 7
Make up the economic part of the business plan. It includes calculating the cost of the entire project, including the cost of technical equipment, rental of premises, salaries of employees, purchase of frequency, registration costs and regular payments for broadcasting music.
Step 8
Calculate how much it will cost to enter the market and bring in experts to develop an exit strategy. A plan for all advertising campaigns is required.
Step 9
The next stage is the search for sources of income. Target your potential advertisers in advance and determine how your offer will appeal to them.
Step 10
If the business plan shows the feasibility of creating a radio, start implementing it. It is necessary to find professional employees and distribute the tasks of implementing the business plan between them - from solving technical issues to organizing PR-actions.
Step 11
To actually launch the radio on the air, you need to certify broadcasting equipment, develop a frequency, issue a license and register your media (you can do it yourself or resort to the help of all kinds of agencies that will collect all the documents, draw up them and deliver the finished set to you). Registration of mass media is carried out in the Federal Service for Supervision in the Sphere of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media and in its territorial departments. The list of required documents, sample applications and a detailed procedure for completing the procedure can be found on the Roskomnadzor website.
