Vladimir Mayakovsky passed away as unexpectedly as other bright personalities, heroes of their time, passed away: Sergei Yesenin, Marina Tsvetaeva, Yuri Galich. All of them were given talent, a divine gift, but the desire for death, the unwillingness to live turned out to be stronger. Before committing suicide, Mayakovsky wrote a suicide note.

The mystery of Mayakovsky's death. Was the request of the deceased been violated?

On April 14, 1930, at 10 hours 17 minutes, Vladimir Vladimirovich Mayakovsky committed suicide by firing a shot at himself in the heart. This event provoked a huge public outcry: neither friends nor enemies expected such an outcome.

Mayakovsky's suicide note was published in the newspapers the next day. In it, the poet addressed everyone: Vladimir Vladimirovich asked not to blame anyone for his death and, most importantly, not to gossip, since he hated gossip. In addition, in the note, the poet turned to his beloved, Lilya Brik, with a request to love him, and to the government with a wish to arrange a “bearable life” for his family. At the end, instructions were given as to the verses that were begun, which were to be given to the Briks. Mayakovsky's suicide note ended with a short poem by the poet stating that he "counts with life." The last words addressed by Vladimir Vladimirovich to the people in his message were "Happy to stay."

There are many oddities in the case of Mayakovsky's death. The suicide note is dated April 12, and he shot himself only on the 14th. It was written in pencil, although the poet always carried his favorite pen with him and wrote only with it. In addition, according to forensic experts, it is much easier to fake handwriting with a pencil than with a pen. There were people whom the poet interfered with, and they could well have dealt with him. However, the autopsy of Mayakovsky's body, the study of his brain did not give anything new, no deviations from the norm were found. And yet, there are still various versions of the poet's mysterious death.

If we turn to the memoirs of Lily Brik, Mayakovsky had suicidal intentions before. In 1916 and 1917, the barrel of the pistol, which the poet held in his own hand, was already pointed in his direction. But the weapon misfired. The motives of the desire for death are also seen in Mayakovsky's poems: "And the heart is eager for a shot …", "… a bullet will instantly trace the path to life beyond the grave," etc.

Increased impressionability, inner tension, suspiciousness and emotionality - all these qualities were inherent in Mayakovsky, who more than once in his heated speeches spoke about a possible suicide. What really happened on that spring morning: the hand of a poet or some cunning and merciless enemy cold-bloodedly pulled the trigger? Hardly anyone will already know about this.

As for the poet's dying wills, they, alas, did not come true. The gossip that Mayakovsky hated so much spread across Moscow with great speed. Everyone was gossiping, regardless of their position in society and proximity to the deceased. The stories were even credited with romantic overtones. By the way, Lilya Brik, after the death of her beloved, lived for a long time, but in 1979 she also took her own life, poisoning herself with sleeping pills.
