The country's position in the world is largely determined by the number of wealthy people. Until recently, Russia was not even one of the top ten countries in terms of the number of wealthy people. Now the situation has changed, and Russia is rapidly approaching the top three in this rating. Neither crises, nor the situation of the majority of Russian citizens, whose financial situation leaves much to be desired, hinders this.
In world practice, it is customary to estimate the number of wealthy people by the number of households owning more than $ 100 million. Until 2012, Russia was ranked eleventh in the overall ranking for this indicator. Now, according to an annual survey conducted by the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), Russia has moved to an honorable fourth place.
As reported in early June 2012 by the Interfax news agency, research reports indicate that the number of super-wealthy households in Russia has increased over the past year by about 13% to 686. These data indicate that the number of truly wealthy people in Russia is growing at a very fast pace. In terms of the growth dynamics of this indicator, the Russian Federation is confidently overtaking other countries, with the exception of India.
The three leaders, capable of bragging about their wealthy, have not changed during this time. The first place in the rating is occupied by the United States, the second - by Great Britain, and the third position is firmly held by Germany. Interestingly, the number of German wealthy families is 807, which is not that far from the figure achieved in Russia.
According to the BCG report, the well-being of Russian residents in the past year increased by more than 21% and amounted to $ 1.3 trillion. One third of these funds go to the richest households. Compared to the middle of the last decade, the structure of assets of wealthy people has changed, in which there has been a pronounced tendency to transfer funds into deposits, shares and other securities.
Assessing the prospects for the next few years, analysts suggest that the average annual growth rate of the number of Russian wealthy will be about 10% per year, which will allow them to reach a total wealth of $ 2 trillion by 2016. It is only unclear how this will affect the general level of the financial condition of the majority of Russia's residents.
