May - June is a great time to visit one of the paradises of Central Russia, which breathes the atmosphere of the 19th century - the State Lermontov Museum-Reserve "Tarkhany". Everything here is permeated with Lermontov's spirit, and it seems that time has stood still - you expect that grandmother Elizaveta Alekseevna is about to go out of the manor house or Mishenka and her nanny will go “to watch the horses”.

Step 1
The estate museum is located in the village. Lermontovo, Belinsky district, Penza region. Her excursion route includes two complexes - the manor house, the Church of Mary of Egypt, the house of the housekeeper and the man's house are located on the territory of the park. The family tomb - the crypt of the Arsenyev-Lermontovs - and the Church of the Archangel Michael are about 800 meters away. The program also includes a visit to the mill and the miller's house.
Step 2
The manor house is the "heart" of the estate. Here is a touching story about Lermontov's childhood, about the dramatic love of Elizaveta Arsenyeva for her grandson, whom she so did not want to share with Yuri Petrovich Lermontov and, despite her feelings, nevertheless brought up as befits a true Christian - in love and reverence for her parent. Pictures and letters written by Lermontov, his library, grandmother's living room and lounge, the Stolypin family icon - all this makes you forget about the present and travel back two hundred years ago, feeling like a contemporary of the poet.
Step 3
The house of the housekeeper and the human hut are restored buildings, but most of the exhibits in them come from the 19th century. The House of the Keeper organizes thematic master classes and folklore festivals. There is no excursion as such in the human hut - themed exhibitions and films are shown in three rooms. They are dedicated to Russian folk life and two works by Lermontov - "The Song about Tsar Ivan Vasilyevich, the young guardsman and the daring merchant Kalashnikov" and the poem "Borodino".
Step 4
The mill was delivered to Tarkhany in 2007 from Mordovia. This is not just a decorative element of the ensemble, it works, and visitors who come in the appropriate season can see for themselves. In addition, this is one of the favorite entertainments for children - they can climb around the building, as well as twist the hand millstone.
Step 5
In Tarkhany, you can visit the Lermontov Ball, ride horses and take a boat trip along the Barsky Pond. The famous Tarkhan lilac deserves special attention - even a separate excursion program "Lilac Paradise" is dedicated to it.
