Andrey was born in 1928 in Tver. The writer's childhood was very difficult: his father was accused of making negative statements about the authorities, and he spent five years in the camps. A native of peasants achieved great success in his career, but everything collapsed one day when he was arrested. And after the camp, the family hid Dmitry Nikitich from the authorities, because he could not live in his hometown for three years.

It was very difficult to live without a father, the family barely survived, and Andrei Dmitrievich later recalled how happy he was with every new purchase.

In his youth, Andrei was engaged in gymnastics, rowing, swimming. He dreamed of entering the military medical academy, but the son of the repressed was not accepted into this university.

He entered the Institute of International Relations, however, and had to leave there, because there were rumors about his White Guard grandmother. Andrei decided to transfer to the Pedagogical Institute in Tver, then became a student at the Literary Institute named after V. I. Gorky in the capital. The famous poets Mikhail Lukonin and Sergey Narovchatov gave him recommendations for admission.

Literary creativity

The legacy of the poet Dementyev includes more than 50 poetry collections.

It all began with the poem "Student", published in 1948 in the newspaper "Proletarskaya Pravda". Since then, many poems have been written on different topics, different genres. Andrey Dmitrievich's work is filled with romance, lyricism and high meaning. He wrote many poems about love, about relationships with loved ones. And one poem has become a kind of philosophical manifesto that supports people in difficult situations - this is the poem "Do not be spared in pursuit", written in 1977.

To date, the circulation of books by Andrey Dementyev exceeds 300 thousand copies. The most famous collections: "I live openly", "Curves of time", "There are no women unloved", "Poems". For his work, Andrei Dmitrievich was also awarded the A. Alexander Nevsky's "Faithful Sons of Russia" and the prestigious Bunin Prize, and his collection "Azart" was awarded the USSR State Prize.

Song creativity occupies a special place in the work of Dementyev. Many magnificent songs have been written on his poems, which have become hits. They were listened to by residents of the entire Soviet Union and by those Russians who lived abroad. These songs were performed by the most famous Soviet and Russian singers.

In 1967, when Dementyev moved to Moscow, he met many writers and poets. Soon he became deputy editor-in-chief of the Yunost magazine, and in 1981 he became the head of this magazine.

In the 80s, Andrei Dmitrievich actively acted as a presenter on radio and television, all programs with his participation were very popular.

Subsequently, Andrei Dementyev wrote a lot, traveled around the country with creative meetings, performed abroad, despite his advanced age.

In June 2018, Andrei Dementyev was admitted to the hospital after a long illness and died there. In a month he would have turned 90 years old.

Personal life

The first time Andrei married a classmate at the age of 19. However, both then left to study, and their paths went their separate ways.

He married a second time after seven years, but divorced four years later and soon married a third time. In his third marriage, he lived for several years, and then went to Anna Pugach, who worked in the magazine "Youth".

Anna is 30 years younger than him, but the age difference did not prevent them from being together until the death of Andrei Dmitrievich.
