Step 1

Rock music represents the largest spectrum of genres, from soft rock to death metal. Choosing the most popular rock trends, which peaked in Russia in the last decade, we can distinguish emocore, indie rock and post-hardcore. Pop-rock and alternative are equally popular: they are constantly listened to.

Step 2

In 2006, emocore was at its peak. Emo music promoted a delicate mental structure and called for a free demonstration of their emotions. Emo is a rather heavy genre of rock, characteristic features of which are screaming - heart-rending screams of the vocalist and sad lyrics.

Step 3

After the fading of the emo fashion, Russia was taken over by the indie trend. Indie is independent music, the name of which comes from the English "independence". Indie sounds like a light version of the alternative with the introduction of electronic music. The style also formed its course - hipsters appeared who found self-expression in creativity.

Step 4

Recently, music with the ending "-kor" has been on the rise again. Emocor has already been forgotten, but groups representing the "Russian alternative", once playing within its framework, participate in nostalgic concerts-festivals "back to zero". Since 2013, they have been held in spring and autumn.

Step 5

More and more often, representatives of foreign post-hardcore and metalcore groups come to Russia with concerts, and then small tours around the country. The characteristic features of these two genres are heavy music, screaming and growling. Growling is a growling style of singing. Metalcore is heavier than post-hardcore.

Step 6

In parallel with rock music, the electronic movement is developing. Electronics are used in many other styles. The most famous electronic trends of the early 2000s are house and techno. Every year, the Sensation festival is held, bringing together DJs playing this music under one roof. Former guitarist of the emo band From First to Last, Sonny Moore, now better known as Skrillex, created the popular electric current in 2011 - dub-step. The dub-step has a "gurgling" sound.

Step 7

The electronic current has penetrated into rock as well. Most often, echoes of synthesizers and computer music programs can be heard in styles such as dance-punk, dream-pop, indie-pop and electro-post-hardcore.

Step 8

Pop music does not lose its popularity. Every year there are at least a couple of hits that make the whole world crazy. Although, in general, little has changed in this musical movement.
